Day 2: Full-Day Guided Tour, Fez Medina.

Fes el-Bali - Experience a full-day city tour with an official guide. Fez, once known as the Mecca of the West and the Athens of Africa, is the second-largest city in the country after Casablanca, with a population of about 1 million. As a former capital and one of Morocco’s four imperial cities, Fez is divided into three parts: Fez el Bali, the oldest section surrounded by a large wall with over 9,000 narrow streets and alleys; Fez-Jdid, the new Fez, home to the Mellah, the Jewish quarter; and the Ville Nouvelle, the newest section created during the French occupation. Fez el Bali is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and its medina is the largest in the world. Within its narrow streets lies the University of Al-Karaouine, the oldest university in the world, founded in AD 859, and still operational today.

Day 3: Fes - Chefchaouen.

Chefchaouen - Depart Fes in the morning for Chefchaouen, renowned for its vibrant blue-washed houses. This charming town is popular with both tourists and Moroccans, especially during the hot summer months. Explore Chefchaouen’s winding lanes and narrow alleys, home to numerous souks offering local cuisine and artisan crafts such as woolen items, intricate embroidery, and goat cheese, unique to the North and not found elsewhere in Morocco. Relax in the square, visit a local farm, or hike in nearby parks.

Day 4: Chefchaouen - Volubilis - Meknes - Ifran - Azrou.

Volubilis - Depart Chefchaouen around 12:00 PM for Meknes, stopping at Volubilis, the most significant archaeological site in Morocco, featuring the best-preserved Roman ruins in Northern Africa. These ruins were listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1997. A 45-minute guided tour is scheduled here.

Bab Mansour Gate - Continue to Meknes, named after the Berber tribe Miknasa. Meknes was Morocco’s capital under Moulay Ismail (1672–1727), who built ingeniously designed granaries with tiny windows and massive walls to store grain and hay for his 15,000 horses. Stop to take pictures of the Bab AL Mansour, the Great Gate built in the 11th century by King AL Mansour Adahbi.

Ifran - Pass through Ifran, the most modern and clean city in the country. The Berber name Ifran means caves, and it is nicknamed “Little Switzerland” for its greenery and status as a ski resort in the Middle Atlas region due to its high altitude of 1665 meters. Ifran is also known for The Brotherhood private university, established in 1997 by King Hassan II of Morocco and King Fahd of Saudi Arabia, where all classes are taught in English.

Azrou - Arrive in Azrou by night and drop-off at your accommodation.

Azrou - Monkey’s Forest - Midelt - Ziz Valley - Erfoud - Merzouga.

Azrou - Depart Azrou around 08:00 AM for a long drive through mountains, valleys, villages, towns, and Saharan roads. Stop briefly at the monkeys’ forest for optional photos with the monkeys.

Midelt - Lunch is scheduled in the Berber village of Midelt, located at the foothills of the eastern High Atlas Mountains. From the vast plateau, cross the rugged mountains, home to a large Berber community. The landscape includes palm tree oases at Jbel Ayachi (3747 m) before descending into the pre-Saharan zone.

Errachidia - A short break for restroom facilities, etc.

Erfoud - Erfoud is famous for its pottery and fascinating fossil quarries. Fossils are a major industry here, as the region was part of a vast ocean 350 million years ago.

Merzouga Desert - Head to the red sand dunes of Erg Chebbi at Merzouga. From a vast plateau, be amazed by the towering sand dunes of Merzouga on the horizon. In the evening, enjoy a camel ride for about an hour and a half to witness the breathtaking sunset amidst the high sand dunes of Merzouga. Overnight in a Berber tented desert camp and enjoy a stunning view of the stars.

Merzouga - Tinghir - Todra Gorges - Dades Gorges.

Merzouga - Rise early to witness the spectacular sunrise, with the dunes’ colors and shadows creating a mesmerizing scene. Return by camel and depart for Khamlia.

Khamlia Gnawa Music - Visit Khamlia, a village of nomadic black people. Stop by a nomadic family for tea and experience nomadic life. Discover the Touareg people’s nomadic lifestyle by visiting Alkhamliya, a village unchanged for centuries.

Rissani - Explore Rissani, the birthplace of the Alaouite dynasty, where Moulay Ali Sheriff began unifying Morocco under his red flag in the early 17th century. Visit Rissani and the Mausoleum of Moulay Ali Chrif, the founder of the Alaouite Dynasty. This quiet town was the ancient capital of Tafilalet and a major caravan center due to its strategic location.

Gargantas del Todra - Travel from Rissani to the magnificent Todgha Gorges, located beyond the central High Atlas Mountains. The contrasting landscapes resemble Colorado, with high plateaus, gorges, canyons, and peaks, some exceeding 4000 m, such as Jbel Saghro (2500 m) and Jbel Mgoun (4068 m). The area is inhabited by Berbers, and visitors can enjoy hiking among the stunning canyons.

Dades Gorges - Continue from the Todgha Gorges to the Dades Valley, passing through Boumalen city on the edge of the Dades Valley, which originates in the High Atlas Mountains. The valley supports a large Berber community with its rich agriculture, leading to the impressive Dades Gorges.

Dades Gorges - Valley of Roses - Ouarzazate - Ait Ben Haddou - Marrakech.

Vallee Des Roses - Discover the Valley of Roses, adorned with the green hues of Alfalfa plants, olive trees, fig trees, and grapes. This valley is known for producing roses used in various cosmetic products like soap, perfumes, and skin creams. Locals celebrate the rose with a national festival each April.

Kasbah Amridil - Travel to Ouarzazate along the road of 1000 Kasbahs, where numerous Kasbahs line both sides of the road. Some are restored, while others remain in ruins. A visit to one of these Kasbahs, Amridil Kasbah, is scheduled.

Ouarzazate - Known as the “Hollywood of Africa,” Ouarzazate is a city on a barren plateau south of the High Atlas Mountains. Inhabited mainly by Berbers, the area is famous for its Kasbahs and buildings, including the 17th-century Taourirt Kasbah. Ouarzazate is a popular film-making location, hosting Morocco’s largest studios and attracting international film companies for movies like “Lawrence of Arabia” (1962), “The Living Daylights” (1987), “The Last Temptation of Christ” (1988), “The Mummy” (1999), “Gladiator” (2000), “Kingdom of Heaven” (2005), Martin Scorsese’s “Kundun” (1997), and “Babel” (2005).

Ksar of Ait-Ben-Haddou - Located 30 km from Ouarzazate, the fortified Aït Ben Haddou was built in the 11th century along the former caravan route between the Sahara and Marrakesh. Situated on a hill along the Ounila River, it features beautiful examples of Kasbahs, though they suffer damage from rain and windstorms. Most residents now live in a modern village across the river, but about five families still reside within the Kasbah. Aït Benhaddou Kasbah has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987, and several films have been shot there, including “Lawrence of Arabia” (1962), “Time Bandits” (1981), “The Jewel of the Nile” (1985), “Kundun” (1997), “Gladiator” (2000), and “Alexander” (2004).

Kasbah du Pacha el Glaoui - Telouet Kasbah, located along the former caravan route from the Sahara over the Atlas Mountains to Marrakech, was the seat of the El Glaoui family’s power, also known as the Palace of Glaoui. Construction began in 1860 and continued in later years. (OPTIONAL VISIT) From this beautiful Kasbah, travel to Marrakech via the High Atlas Mountains’ Tizn Tichka Pass (2200 meters altitude). Enjoy the scenic views of Berber villages and elevated mountain vistas.
