This is the original tour from the 1990s that Shannon Scott initiated! The largest narrative cemetery within the entire Historic District is the Colonial Park Cemetery! This is the oldest city land that one can visit, showcasing artifacts much older than the surrounding Victorian City. This was the hub of Savannah’s colonial times, where all town meetings, picnics, weddings, duels and public executions took place! Over time, it became the final resting ground for Gen Nathanael Greene, two signatories of The Declaration of Independence, merchants, priests, penniless individuals, military personnel and every person who contributed their blood, sweat and tears to the early colony and subsequent nation. Remember the havoc that Yellow Fever wreaked, transforming the area into a mass grave, resulting in its permanent closure in 1853. The tour also delves into the culture of the Root Doctors, The Old City Jail, the birthplace of Conrad Aiken, Dueling Grounds and is enriched with visual images to enhance the tour experience.
