• Johnson Square - The tour begins with an introduction to Savannah. We see Christ Church and discuss its heritage and history. Remembering that Johnson Square was our first square and the beginning of many things Savannah!
• Wright Square - Also known as the Court House Square, where everything was made “right!” Housed the first Federal Courthouse, County Courthouse, jail, and burial grounds.
• Colonial Park Cemetery - This is Savannah’s Colonial cemetery with a unique and interesting history. Playing a big part in the Civil War and then being transported as part of the movement to our Victorian Cemeteries.
• Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace Museum - One of the strong women of Savannah was born in Savannah, married in Savannah, and died in Savannah. The Gordon family built and lived in this home until the Girl Scouts bought the home and turned it into a museum. All of the Gordon children were born in this house. • Chippewa Square - A square made famous by Forrest Gump, he waited for the bus on this square. Surrounded by many of Savannah’s high points, the statue in the center of the square is of General James Oglethorpe, the founder of Savannah.
• Cathedral of St. John the Baptist - The largest and one of the most beautiful churches in Savannah. This Catholic basilica began as a church in the 1700s, the actual basilica building was built in the middle 1800s, great history, and is open daily.
• Madison Square - Sgt Jasper stands in the center of this square, he fought in the Siege of Savannah and was fatally wounded. St. Johns Episcopal Church occupies this square as well as the Green Meldrim house.
• Monterey Square - This square is named for the Battle of Monterey. General Casimir Pulaski stands in the center of the square. The synagogue, Mickve Israel, is on this square built in Gothic Revival style and the Mercer Williams house enriches the square with its historic style. Mercer Williams’s house is the center point of the book “Midnight in the Garden of Good & Evil,” and also a big part of several of the movies filmed in Savannah.
• Forsyth Park - Entering the park leads you to the famous Forsyth Fountain, great photo op! This 30 acre park is a meeting place for many festivals, a Farmers Market and restaurnats. The history of the park is vast and the present day information is plentiful.
