The Valle delle Ferriere is entirely traversed by the Canneto River, whose clear waters have maintained a unique subtropical microclimate over time, similar to regions with high rainfall like Southeast Asia. This environment provides an ideal habitat for ancient plant species, creating a rich ecosystem of immense value. Among these is the Woodwardia Radicans, a million-year-old fern considered a living fossil. Other rare plants include the Pteris Vittata, Pteris Cretica, Erica Terminalis, and Hirtiflora Pinguicula. The oasis’s microclimate is also perfect for amphibians such as the Spectacled Salamander.
