- Shilshole Bay Marina - Begin your culinary journey at Un Bien, where the Caribbean Roast Sandwich is a standout, often hailed as the best in Seattle, Washington State, and even the nation. The combination of roast pork and grilled onions creates an unforgettable taste. Even a side of grilled onions is worth the trip. Enjoy the sandwich at a secluded beach, unknown to many locals. This spot offers a great introduction to Seattle’s waterways, Puget Sound, islands, and the Olympic Mountains.
- Hiram M. Chittenden Locks - Commonly referred to as the Ballard Locks, this is where we walk our bikes while exploring the botanical gardens. We take the opportunity to watch the Locks in operation and observe adult salmon on their migration. It’s common to spot harbor seals, herons, ospreys, and kingfishers here. We exit via a wooden pedestrian bridge over a ravine.
- Fishermen’s Terminal - Our journey includes a stop at the Fishermen’s Terminal, where the Alaskan Fishing Fleet docks their boats during the off-season. We have the chance to ride our bikes along the docks and witness firsthand how this terminal is linked to at least a quarter of the total seafood harvest in the U.S. The boats from “Deadliest Catch” are also docked here in the off-season.
- Fremont - Your second food stop might be in the Fremont neighborhood, offering a variety of options. We could visit Tivoli for the renowned Tomato Pie with Calabrian Chili Crisps, or explore why Teriyaki is a Seattle staple at I Love Teriyaki. Kenji has visited nearly every Teriyaki spot in Seattle and selected four exceptional ones, with I Love Teriyaki being among them. Frelard Tamales offers the best tamales in Seattle, and any choice is a good one. Outsider Barbeque is known for the best brisket in Seattle.
- Gasworks Park Marina - As we pass Gasworks Park, we might head to The Wayland Mill for The Egg Sando and nut pie. If time permits, we stop at Gasworks to enjoy one of the best views of Seattle while watching seaplanes land on Lake Union.
- Ballard - Often the final stop is Mean Sandwich, famous for the Mean Sandwich and Oyster Po’Boy. Full of character, it’s located almost under the Ballard Bridge. Dan, the owner, frequently greets riders with a brief introduction to his restaurant.
