Cape Town to Knysna via Wilderness and Sedgefield

Cape Town Central - Begin the journey by picking up at the accommodation in Cape Town and heading towards the Garden Route of South Africa. This route is renowned for its breathtaking scenery and offers a variety of exciting activities. The trip along the N2 national road takes approximately 5 hours, passing through picturesque towns such as Swellendam and Mossel Bay, where the Indian Ocean can be experienced for the first time.

Wilderness - Enjoy a relaxing time on the water by canoeing on one of the Garden Route lakes in Wilderness (Kaaimans or Touws river). The area features five lakes of varying sizes, separated from the sea by dunes covered in fynbos, running parallel to the park’s stunning coastline. Delight in the natural beauty and observe birdlife such as cormorants, herons, egrets, bitterns, frogs, and fish while paddling along the river.

Sedgefield - After a delightful canoeing experience in Wilderness, continue to the charming seaside village of Sedgefield for an overnight stay. Surrounded by lakes and sand dunes covered in fynbos, Sedgefield offers a paradise-like setting with its lush greenery and sparkling blue waters. Enjoy an evening stroll on the beach, feeling the cool white sand beneath your feet. After checking in at the accommodation, dinner is recommended at one of the many local restaurants and eateries.

Sedgefield to Jeffreys Bay via Knysna, Plettenberg Bay, and Tsitsikamma

Knysna - After breakfast and checking out, embark on a day filled with adventures. Explore the stunning Knysna Heads with breathtaking views of the Knysna Lagoon, Forest, and Ocean. Engage in thrilling activities like ziplining and bungy jumping off the world’s highest commercial bridge, the Bloukrans Bridge. Then, hike in the Tsitsikamma National Park to the 900M suspension bridge, surrounded by lush forests and a rushing river gorge. Adventure enthusiasts will enjoy walking on the suspension bridge with the river gorge below.

Bloukrans Bridge - From Knysna, take a scenic drive to the Bloukrans Bridge via the coastal town of Plettenberg Bay, known as the Jewel of the Garden Route and a playground for the affluent.

Upon arrival at the Bloukrans Bridge, choose between bungy jumping, ziplining over waterfalls, or exploring the surrounding forest. For adrenaline seekers, the bungy jumping experience is highly recommended. Start with a zip line from the bank to the arch beneath the massive bridge, then take the 216M face-down Bungy leap off Africa’s highest bridge.

ZIPLINE @ Tsitsikamma Falls Adventure - After this exhilarating adventure, zipline over the scenic waterfalls of the Tsitsikamma Forest. There are 8 slides, with the longest being 211m, zigzagging across the river gorge up to 50m above the water in some areas. The zip line offers stunning views of the indigenous Tsitsikamma flora and fauna.

Tsitsikamma National Park - Hike in the scenic Tsitsikamma National Park and admire the serene wonders of nature amidst spectacular green forests and river gorges. After 900M, reach the Storms River suspension bridge, where you can walk on the hanging bridge with the Storms River Mouth below. (Entrance to the National Park is included.)

Jeffreys Bay - Drive for 1 hour and 30 minutes to the coastal town of Jeffreys Bay, a popular destination for surfers worldwide due to its high waves and various magical surf breaks. Spend the night here and enjoy dinner at one of the many local restaurants and eateries.

Jeffreys Bay to Addo National Park

Addo Elephant National Park - Depart Jeffreys Bay early in the morning for a day filled with wildlife encounters, particularly with the Big Five animals, focusing on elephants, at Addo Elephant National Park. Enjoy a safari drive in the tour minibus, led by an experienced guide, and look out for the Big Five and other animals.

Addo Elephant National Park - Join an open 4x4 Safari Game Truck for a 3-hour safari game drive. Keep an eye out for elephants, lions, buffalos, black rhinos, hyenas, leopards, zebras, and antelopes. (Entrance fee for the 4x4 game drive is not included.)

Jeffreys Bay - After the 3-hour game drive, return to Jeffreys Bay for a relaxing afternoon and overnight stay. Surf enthusiasts can head to the beach, as Jeffreys Bay boasts some of the world’s highest surf breaks. Dinner can be enjoyed at the nearby restaurants and eateries.

Jeffreys Bay to Oudtshoorn

The Cango Caves - After breakfast and checking out, travel to Oudtshoorn in the Klein Karoo via the Langkloof Mountains, leaving the Indian Ocean behind. Oudtshoorn is known as the Ostrich Capital of South Africa and is home to the Cango Caves.

The Cango Caves are located in a limestone ridge parallel to the famous Swartberg Mountains. Here, you will find exquisite dripstone caverns with vast halls and towering formations.

The Cango Caves offer two options: the Heritage Tour, providing insight into the formation and evolution of dripstone, or the Adventure Tour, allowing you to squeeze, twist, and wiggle through limestone chimneys underground.

Cango Ostrich Show Farm - Oudtshoorn is the Ostrich Capital of South Africa, and it’s no surprise to see markets and informal sellers offering ostrich feather and leather goods throughout this Klein Karoo town.

At the Ostrich Farm, experience the world’s largest bird with feeding encounters. (Please note that ostrich riding is no longer permitted.)

Buffelsdrift Game Lodge - Activities - Continuing in the Klein Karoo, travel to Buffelsdrift Game Reserve in the afternoon for a 4x4 Safari Game Drive. On the Bush Safari, experience true Karoo vegetation from open game viewing vehicles. The reserve hosts a wide range of animals, including Hippo, Giraffe, Eland, Zebra, Buffalo, Springbok, and more.

Oudtshoorn - After the Bush Safari, return to Oudtshoorn to check into the accommodation. Dinner options are available at nearby restaurants or eateries. This is the perfect town to savor Karoo lamb or local ostrich.

Oudtshoorn to Cape Town via Route 62

Buffelsdrift Game Lodge - Activities - Pick up at the accommodation in Oudtshoorn for an early morning Elephant encounter at Buffelsdrift Game Reserve. Enjoy a leisurely walk with the elephants in the early morning, taking in the Karoo’s beauty while walking with the largest land mammals on earth. Meet the resident Elephants, Malaika, Jabari, and Bulelo, who were rescued after their parents were poached in northern South Africa. Please note that this is an optional activity. Please indicate upon booking if you wish to participate.

Cape Town - Conclude the tour by returning to Cape Town for drop-off at the accommodation between 18:00 and 19:00.
