- Thingvellir National Park - Thingvellir National Park is a genuine Icelandic gem, abundant in historical and geological significance. It is the site where Iceland’s parliament, the Althing, was founded in 930 AD, making it one of the world’s oldest parliamentary locations. For centuries, until the Danish rule, approximately 30 chieftains convened here annually to establish laws and resolve disputes.
Thingvellir is also located in a striking rift valley where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates converge. This unique spot allows visitors to literally walk between continents.
- Geysir - The Geysir geothermal area is among Iceland’s most renowned natural marvels, featuring a steaming landscape with bubbling hot springs, hissing vents, and vibrant mineral deposits. The highlight here is Strokkur, the globally famous geyser that erupts every few minutes, propelling a column of hot water 20–30 meters (65–100 ft) into the air — a remarkable display of geothermal energy.
This area also hosts the Great Geysir, the original geyser that lent its name to all others worldwide. Although Great Geysir is mostly inactive today, the surrounding geothermal field remains highly active and vibrant.
During the visit, there is ample time to explore the walking paths and enjoy the distinctive sights and geothermal scents. Visitors can also enjoy lunch or a snack at the nearby restaurant and café before continuing the adventure.
- Gullfoss Waterfall - Next, the journey leads to Gullfoss, one of Iceland’s most iconic waterfalls. Renowned for its immense power and dramatic beauty, this “Golden Falls” cascades into a rugged canyon, creating misty rainbows on sunny days and a roaring spectacle throughout the year. It’s clear why Gullfoss is a top contender on many lists of Iceland’s must-see natural wonders — it’s mesmerizing, raw, and unforgettable.
There is also a café and visitor center available on site.
