Ephesus is undoubtedly one of the most stunning ancient cities globally. It was a leading commercial hub in antiquity, with its harbor situated on the Aegean coast. Witnessing Ephesus’s prominence before its coast was silted by a nearby river is invaluable. Today, Ephesus is approximately 8 km from the Aegean coast.
- Meryemana (The Virgin Mary’s House) - The next destination is The House of Virgin Mary, believed to be where she spent her final years. It is thought that St. John brought Virgin Mary to Ephesus after Jesus Christ’s crucifixion, and a small house was constructed for her on Bulbul Mountain. On July 26, 1967, Pope Paul VI visited The House of Virgin Mary and declared it a pilgrimage center.
- The Temple of Artemis - Proceed to the Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Although only a single column remains today, the magnificent temple was built for Artemis, the goddess of fertility and hunters, known as Diana after the city came under Roman rule.

Quick but enjoyable day in Kusadasi with Ata! - Amazing day in Kusadasi! Having Ata as a guide was a treat. He was able to tour us through Ephesus and the House of the Virgin Mary and gave us all the relevant information in such a short period of time. He brought us to different parts of Ephesus, made sure we were able to avoid the crowds while still getting the best views, and gave us a lot of time to take photos. We had a lovely lunch with traditional Turkish food and Ata showed us what to eat first and how. He was pleasant to talk to and he had a lot of anecdotes to share. He also taught us basic Turkish phrases and was very patient with our pronunciations. Ata made sure we would be back at the port on time, as we only had a few hours in Kusadasi. Only wish we had more time, especially in Ephesus.
Thank you to Best of Ephesus and Gizem, who was very responsive and made sure we were able to see multiple sights despite the short time we had. Would also recommend requesting for Ata as your guide!

Must-do shore excursion from Kusadasi. - We got Atakan as our guide today. He is professional, on time and very patient. Our 1st stop was Ephesus - thankfully we got there before the crowd. Atakan took his time to give us basic info of the site and gave us ample time to go around for photos. He makes very funny side comments which made the trip more interesting and left us laughing. He is also respectful to other guides and guests and chooses to bring us to photo stops since he noticed we liked those and not spots with very heavy foot traffic.
We also saw the house of Virgin Mary and I very much appreciated his inputs despite him practicing a different religion from us. He is polite and accommodating. He also taught us very helpful local words over lunch.
Booking with Gizem is very easy and hassle free. We highly recommend this shore excursion. Kudos to Atakan!
