- The Temple of Artemis - Begin your journey at The Temple of Artemis, a remarkable Greek temple dedicated to the goddess Artemis and recognized as one of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world. Situated in the flatlands of Ephesus, visitors can explore the remnants of this magnificent Hellenistic Age structure, crafted entirely from marble and adorned with sculptured columns featuring intricate high-relief carvings.
- Ancient City of Ephesus - Next, explore the renowned ancient Greco-Roman City of Ephesus, celebrated as one of the most extensive and well-preserved archaeological sites globally. Enter through the Magnesia Gate and enjoy a leisurely downhill stroll with your guide through the ruins of this former Roman provincial capital. The path includes the Odeon Theater, the Celsus Library, the Temple of Hadrian, the Fountain of Trajan, and the Great Theater. This theater, seating 24,000, is believed to be where St. Paul preached to the Ephesians and is currently used for a local spring festival.
- Ephesus Terrace Houses - Continue to the Ephesus Terrace Houses, located on the slopes of Bulbul Mountain, opposite the Temple of Hadrian. Known as “the houses of the rich,” these residences were home to Ephesus’s affluent citizens. Please note that this visit involves walking uphill and climbing over 100 stairs, though not all at once; each level consists of approximately 10 to 15 stairs.
- Meryemana (The Virgin Mary’s House) - After exploring this fascinating site, enjoy a lunch break before visiting The House of Virgin Mary, a revered site for both Christians and Muslims. Recognized by the Vatican as the place where the Virgin Mary spent her final days, it offers a serene environment for prayer and reflection.
- The Basilica of Saint John - Visit the Basilica of St. John, constructed by Emperor Justinian over the tomb of St. John the Apostle. Although now in ruins, the Basilica once rivaled St. Sophia in size. Admire the remaining elegant columns and mosaics while enjoying panoramic views of the rural Selcuk countryside and the Temple of Artemis ruins.
- Ephesus Museum - The Ephesus Archaeological Museum (Turkish: Efes Müzesi) in Selçuk showcases artifacts from the nearby Ephesus excavation site. Its most famous exhibit is the statue of Artemis, recovered from the goddess’s temple in Ephesus. The museum, which closed at the end of 2012, reopened in November 2014 following extensive renovations.
