- Ancient City of Ephesus - A trip to Efes (Ephesus), once the commercial hub of the ancient world, is a must-see on any journey to Turkey. - Didim - The Apollo Temple of Didyma, situated within the village of Yeni Hisar in the Söke district of Aydin province, was known as a sanctuary and oracle seat linked to Miletus. Recent excavations have uncovered remains indicating that Didyma was not only an oracle seat but also a densely populated area. The research into the origins of the names Didyma and Didymaion has been a topic of discussion. Among various myths, it was believed that the name Didymaion, meaning “twin temples,” was associated with Artemis, Apollo’s twin sister. However, as no conclusive evidence has been found, this theory remains a myth. The first excavations in Didyma took place in 1858. The area excavated was the Sacred Road. From the excavations, it was determined that the road was 16.5 km long. The width of the road, made of stone blocks, varied between 5 and 7 meters.
- Miletus - Miletus is located near the village of Balat, 42 km from Söke, a district of Aydin province. This site was initially established during the 2nd millennium B.C. on the coast of the Latmic Gulf (now Lake Bafa). The town became one of the most significant of the twelve cities along the Aegean Sea, forming the Ionian Confederation. The Theatre, built on the southwest slopes of the hill of Kaletepe, utilizing the natural slope, is the best-preserved structure in Miletus. First constructed in the 4th century BC, it has taken its current form through later modifications during the Hellenistic, Roman, and Byzantine periods. The theatre, which could accommodate 5,300 spectators in the Hellenistic period, expanded to a capacity of 25,000 seats in the Roman period. The Caravanserai was constructed in the 15th century during the Principality of Menteşe. It includes a courtyard and lodging rooms. The lower floor of the two-story building was used as stables.
