Afdera - Upon arriving at Semera airport, meet the tour guide and get ready for the adventure to the Danakil Depression. Travel from Semera to Lake Afdera, stopping at local villages along the way to immerse in the Afar culture and take in the stunning desert landscapes. After a lunch break, unwind at Lake Afdera, a saltwater lake encircled by natural hot springs. In the afternoon, continue the drive to Erta Ale volcano.
Erta Ale - Arrive at Erta Ale Base Camp in the late afternoon. After a brief rest, embark on a 40-minute to 1-hour moderate trek to Erta Ale Volcano. Upon reaching the crater, witness the mesmerizing lava lake, one of the few continuously active lava lakes globally. Spend time near the crater, capturing photos and soaking in the extraordinary surroundings.
Journey from Erta Ale to Dallol (Hamed Ela)
Dallol - In the early morning, enjoy breakfast while watching the sunrise over Erta Ale. Then, drive to Dallol (Hamed Ela), a small village near the salt flats, which takes approximately 5 hours. This journey offers views of remote Afar villages and distinctive desert landscapes.
Dallol - Upon arrival in Dallol (Hamed Ela), settle into a basic camp and take a lunch break. Afterward, visit the salty Dallol pool and salt mountain. End the day by witnessing the breathtaking sunset over the salt flats, where the shimmering salt fields create a surreal and tranquil atmosphere.
Journey from Dallol to Semera
Dallol - In the early morning, explore Dallol, one of the most geologically active regions in the world. Discover the vibrant sulfur springs, acidic pools, and unusual salt formations that form otherworldly landscapes. Visit nearby attractions such as the salt canyons and salt mining areas, where Afar locals continue to extract salt blocks using traditional methods and camel caravans.
Semera - By midday, return to Hamed Ela base camp for lunch and prepare for departure. Then, embark on the drive back to Semera through the awe-inspiring vast desert, which takes approximately 5 hours. Tour concludes.
