Begin by passing through “Iljumun,” the one-pillar gate. This gate represents the boundary between the earthly realm and the sacred world of Buddha. Visitors will enjoy a profound spiritual experience and have the opportunity to admire the magnificent golden statues.
- Gyeongbokgung Palace - * Please be aware that Gyeongbok Palace is closed on Tuesdays, and on those days, the charming Changdeok Palace will be visited instead.
Witness the carefully orchestrated ceremony held in front of Gwanghwamun Gate.
This tradition dates back to the Joseon Dynasty and was revived for reenactment in 1996. Soldiers, dressed in vibrant blue and red uniforms, elegantly patrol the palace gates to protect the king. The tradition is both graceful and captivating to observe!
Gyeongbok Palace (Except Tuesdays)
The palace was initially destroyed during the Imjin War from 1592 to 1598. Later, in the 20th century, Imperial Japan demolished much of Gyeongbokgung Palace. However, it has been meticulously restored over time and now closely resembles its original grandeur!
Highlights include Gangnyeongjeon, the king’s main quarters, Geunjeongjeon where the king received formal visits, Gyeonghoeru – the special banquet hall, and more!
- Cheongwadae Sarangchae - Cheongwadae Sarangchae serves as an exhibition hall showcasing significant Korean artifacts and documents. Here, visitors can explore politics, history, and culture. Situated just in front of the Blue House, this museum is a two-story building featuring a souvenir shop, perfect for purchasing thoughtful gifts for history enthusiasts.
On the first floor, a permanent exhibit showcases traditional Korean clothing, food, and music, making it a must-see! The second floor offers in-depth information about Korean presidents and their legacies. Visitors will also be inspired by the geography section, which displays photos of the country’s regions that every traveler should explore!
