- AKEMI’s SUSHiKiTCHEN - The Chef has 7 years of experience in the restaurant industry in Japan. She has completed the Edomae Sushi Technique Acquisition Course at the Tokyo Sushi School. She applies her culinary skills and proficiency in English to offer an enjoyable and educational Sushi Cooking Lesson in her home. Guests can enjoy an at-home environment in a quiet, residential area of Japan, as they learn how to make four types of sushi. The lesson culminates in a delicious meal that the participants have made themselves. Akemi sources only the best ingredients to make the sushi, including blended rice specially ordered from Hachidaime Gihey in Kyoto (est. 1787) and fresh fish (“neta”) sourced directly from fish markets in Toyosu and Tsukiji. In addition to learning how to make sushi, guests will learn about the history of sushi, essential terminology, and sushi eating etiquette. Even Japanese guests have told us that they learned a lot about their own food culture! Lessons are limited to a maximum of five students, so you will be assured plenty of personal attention. Even if you have never tried sushi before, you can be confident that your hand-prepared meal will be a delight.

Exceptional Experience - We had the pleasure to book a cooking class with Akemi and Dan for our family vacation. This was hands down the highlight of our trip to Tokyo. Both Akemi and Dan were warm, helpful, and knowledgeable throughout our lesson. To be sure the sushi was exceptional ( I am a total sushi foodie) but thier engagement with our family is what made the experience truly world class. We ended up eating a ton of sushi along with great memories.

5-star sushi - Akemi was a fantastic sushi teacher
We prepared with our own hands a great Japanese lunch at the home of Akemi and Dan who welcomed us with great cordiality.
Truly a 5-star experience that I recommend to everyone.

Best tasting sushi ever! - We had the best time at Akemi's Sushi Kitchen. We arrived as complete novices and made professional standard sushi, thanks to Akemi's fantastic instruction.

Akemi's Sushi Kitchen was a memorable experience! - Akemi's Sushi Kitchen was the highlight of our trip! Akemi and Dan were so kind and welcoming. They seamlessly accommodated our salmon allergy. The session was a perfect blend of education and hands-on learning, with insightful explanations of Japanese sushi terms and techniques. We loved making tamago, fresh wasabi, and nigiri. We learned so much and how to eat nigiri properly, and we enjoyed getting to know them. Akemi provided clear instructions and lots of insight for any questions we had! Definitely a must-do when you're in Tokyo!

Surprisingly good ! - We took the class on march 2025 with my wife. I wasn’t expecting anything since I was here to please her tbh, but Akemi and Dan, the hosts proved me wrong.
We really learned a lot of interesting things and tips in order to prepare sushis at home.
The course is well prepared and the hosts are really welcoming.
The sushi platter was diversified and we even used real wasabi.
If you are a foodie, or a person who likes to cook or even just a person who wants to try something different, I can only recommend you to take the class.
Thanks again to Akemi and Dan for this experience !

Really authentic and genuine sushi class! - The sushi class with Chef Akemi was such a great experience! From the start, she welcomed us into her home with a really tasty Sakura milk tea. She explained everything in a super interesting way, making it easy to follow, even for beginners. The hands-on part was so much fun, and making sushi felt surprisingly natural with her guidance. And of course, eating our own sushi for lunch was the best part—it tasted amazing! Akemi is an awesome teacher, and the whole class had a really relaxed and friendly vibe. Definitely a five-star experience, highly recommended!

SUSHI♡♡ - From the moment I walked in the front door of AKEMI’s SUSHiKiTCHEN, I could feel the wonderful atmosphere.
Although I am Japanese, I didn’t know anything about Edomae Sushi, so I was able to enjoy learning from square one.
The exquisite harmony of the red vinegar rice and fish, the fresh aroma and spiciness of fresh wasabi, and the gentle flavor of the soup that takes nothing away from th sushi; it was all outstanding.
I would like to see many people enjoy this experience. My mother, who participated in the lesson with me, said over and over, “I’m so happy.” Soothed by the warm hospitality of Akemi and her husband, we brought a lovely year to a close.

Sushi class in Tokyo: I recommend Akemi’s Sushi Kitchen without any hesitation. - I took a sushi class at Akemi’s Sushi Kitchen on December 26, 2024. During this course, I was lucky enough to be the only student registered for the chosen time slot. Since I have enjoyed making sushi for a long time and want to improve my techniques, I took the opportunity to ask specific questions about what I want to improve, in terms of preparing rice and preparing nigiri sushi. Akemi also showed me some fish preparation techniques. So I was lucky to have a very personalized course. It was beyond my expectations. I recommend this course to everyone, during your next stay in Tokyo. Thank you very much to Akemi and her husband Dan. 🍣🍣🤩👍👍
