Take an Overnight Train from Shanghai to Xi’an

Shanghai Railway Station - A friendly driver will pick you up at 4:30 p.m. from downtown Shanghai and take you to Shanghai Railway Station to board your overnight train to Xi’an. The driver will assist in obtaining your pre-purchased train tickets and accompany you to the waiting room.

Xi’an City Wall - Shaanxi History Museum - Muslim Quarter

Xi’an City Wall (Chengqiang) - Upon arrival, a local guide and driver will meet you at Xi’an train station and take you to Xi’an City Wall. Located in the urban district of Xi’an City, it is one of the oldest, largest, and best-preserved Chinese city walls. Enjoy some time on top of the City Wall with your tour guide. Riding a bike is also a fun option (optional for you).

Shaanxi History Museum - After enjoying a delicious local lunch, continue to the Shaanxi History Museum, one of the first large state museums with modern facilities in China. Built in 1983 and opened to the public in 1991, it houses bronze artifacts from the Shang and Zhou dynasties, as well as gold and silver artifacts from the Han and Tang dynasties. It’s a great place to learn about ancient Chinese civilization.

Muslim Quarter - The next stop is the Muslim Quarter, located in Xi’an city center. About 500 meters in length and oriented south to north, it is the largest of the old city’s neighborhoods. There are many shops offering Xi’an local snacks, halal food, traditional costumes, and antiques. You can try some delicious local snacks if you wish. After the tour, you will be transferred to your Xi’an downtown hotel (at your own arrangement).

The Museum of Qin Terra-cotta Warriors and Horses - Big Wild Goose Pagoda

The Museum of Qin Terra-cotta Warriors and Horses - Meet your private guide and driver at your hotel lobby in the early morning, then head to the Museum of Terra-cotta Warriors and Horses (about 1 hour driving time). This is a vast collection of terra-cotta sculptures depicting the armies of Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China. The Terra-Cotta Warriors and Horses are among the most impressive and significant archaeological excavations, dating back 2,000 years. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Terra-cotta Army is a must-see for every visitor to Xi’an.

Big Wild Goose Pagoda (Dayanta) - After visiting the Terra-cotta Warriors and Horses, enjoy a nice local lunch, then continue to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, a Buddhist pagoda located in southern Xi’an. Built in 652 during the Tang Dynasty (618-907) for the study of Buddhist scriptures, it originally had five stories. A massive earthquake in 1556 heavily damaged the pagoda, reducing it by three stories to its current height of seven stories. When the tour is finished, you will be transferred to Xi’an Railway Station to catch your departure overnight train at 4:46 p.m. back to Shanghai, arriving in Shanghai at 8:11 a.m. the next morning. Your driver will hold a sign with your full name and meet you at Shanghai Railway Station, then transfer you back to your Shanghai hotel or apartment. If you choose to end the tour in Xi’an, you will be transferred back to your hotel (at your own arrangement) after the tour.
