- Xintiandi - Next, the group will head to the Former French Concession to admire the Sikumen-style old houses in Xintiandi. Xintiandi is a tourist destination that preserves Shanghai’s historical and cultural features while blending Chinese and Western cultures. It is divided into northern and southern sections, with the south featuring modern architecture and the north showcasing Shikumen old buildings. This area has become a trendy pedestrian street in the city center, representing the leisurely lifestyle of Shanghai’s new generation. Outdoor cafes, bars, and romantic restaurants are abundant.
The group will then visit the Shikumen Museum to learn about the living spaces and lifestyles of Shanghai residents in the past.
- Shikumen Museum, Shanghai - This museum is housed in a preserved and renovated Shikumen house from the 1920s. It is modeled after a typical household from that era, featuring seven main exhibition rooms: the guest room, study room, old people’s room, master room, daughter room, pavilion room, and oven room. The museum tells the story of a Shikumen family, showcasing Shanghai’s unique architectural culture and the lifestyle of its people during that time.
Later, the group will walk to Yunnan Road, a street filled with delightful eateries, perfect for a quick bite. There will be free time to explore and have lunch (at personal expense). Based on preferences, the guide will recommend dining options, ranging from small local eateries to elegant restaurants.
In the afternoon, the group will transfer to People’s Square to visit the Shanghai History Museum and admire the facades of significant buildings around the square.
- People’s Square (Renmin Guang Chang) - Located at the heart of Shanghai, People’s Square is the dividing point between East and West Nanjing Road. It is a bustling area for exploration. Before 1949, it was a renowned horse racetrack, built in 1861 and known as the ‘No.1 Racetrack in the Far East’. Visitors can still see the remnants of the former main building in the northeast part of the square. Scenic spots around People’s Square include the new Municipal Government Mansion, Shanghai Museum, Shanghai Grand Theater, Shanghai History Museum, and Mu’en Church.
- Shanghai Grand Theater - The group will admire the facade of the Shanghai Grand Theater, which is uniquely designed and beautifully shaped, blending Western and Chinese architectural styles. The white arched vault complements the glass curtain walls, resembling a crystal palace.
The group will then visit the Shanghai History Museum to learn about Shanghai’s 6000-year civilization.
- Shanghai History Museum - Situated in the People’s Square area, the Shanghai History Museum is a large museum dedicated to the city’s local history, from ancient times to the modern era. It houses over 400 cultural relics that chronicle Shanghai’s 6000-year civilization. The museum is divided into two sections – Ancient Shanghai and Modern Shanghai – tracing the city’s political, social, economic, and cultural evolution from 4000 BC to the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 1949.
The group will then stroll along the Bund to view 26 buildings of various architectural styles and modern skyscrapers.
- The Bund (Wai Tan) - The Bund is a renowned waterfront on the west bank of the Huangpu River and is considered a symbol of Shanghai. It showcases the city’s charm as a bustling metropolis with a rich history and a promising future, making it a must-see attraction. Visitors will see 26 buildings of different architectural styles at the Bund, including the Peace Hotel (Heping Fandian), Shanghai Customs House, and Shanghai Pudong Development Bank. Skyscrapers across the Huangpu River can also be admired.
- The Bund City Sculptures - The group will view the Bund City Sculptures, Monument to the People’s Heroes, Huangpu Park, and Waibaidu Bridge.

Heping Fandian - Also known as the Peace Hotel, Heping Fandian consists of the South Building and North Building.
South Building
This building features a brick veneer structure, with six stories reaching 30 meters in height. Its exterior is designed in a Renaissance style, with a strong emphasis on color and a locally interpreted Victorian Renaissance design.
North Building
Formerly known as Sassoon House, this building was constructed in 1929 and stands 77 meters tall. It features extensive use of straight lines on the exterior, with decorative patterns at pediments and eaves. Most of the building is faced with granite, while the ninth floor and roof are surfaced with terracotta. The eastern façade, facing the Huangpu River and the Bund, features a pyramidal roof with steep sides, reaching about 10 meters in height.
