- Yuyuan Old Street - The tour guide will meet the group at the hotel at 09:00 a.m. Following this, the group will be transferred to Shanghai Old City to commence the highlight tour. Shanghai Old Street, historically known as Miaoqian Dajie, is a historic business street that blends tourist attractions, shops, entertainment, and cultural exhibits. Its unique social appeal and rich commercial history stem from being home to the city’s earliest bank, gold shop, jeweler’s store, wine shop, and tea house. Exploring the old alleys of Shanghai offers a wonderful opportunity to uncover the city’s traditional culture and experience authentic Shanghainese life. Next, the tour will visit the largest ancient gardens in Shanghai - Yu Garden.
- Yu Garden (Yuyuan) - Yu Garden was a private garden of the Pan family during the Ming Dynasty. Upon completion, it was the largest and most prestigious garden of its time in Shanghai. Although small in size, Yu Garden encompasses all the elements of a classical Chinese garden. The pavilions, halls, rockeries, ponds, and cloisters each possess unique characteristics. The exquisite layout, stunning scenery, and artistic style of the garden architecture make it a highlight of Shanghai. Visitors can stroll to the Zigzag Nine Bend Bridge, which is believed to bring good luck as the number nine symbolizes auspiciousness in Chinese culture. The bridge leads to the Mid-Lake Pavilion Teahouse, the oldest teahouse in Shanghai.
- Shanghai Temple Of the Town God (Chenghuang Miao) - The Old Town God Temple of Shanghai, with its extensive history, draws numerous tourists from around the globe. In addition to praying, visitors can enjoy folk performances, participate in cockfighting, special calligraphy, and other acrobatic shows. The temple is renowned for its local snacks, making it a true haven for delicious food with a variety of restaurants lining the streets.
Following this, the group will learn about traditional Chinese Medicine at an ancient Chinese pharmacy.
- South Bund Soft Spinning Material Market - The renowned Shanghai “Fabric Market” hosts hundreds of tailors and seamstresses and is the city’s top destination for bespoke clothing. Many visitors to Shanghai recommend the South Bund Spinning Material Market as a must-see location. Here, visitors can select from a variety of fabrics and collaborate with a tailor to customize their desired clothing. Upon entering the market, nearly all shops display multilingual billboards, as 80% of the customers are foreigners. “Tailor” is the market’s standout feature, catering to both Chinese and foreign demands for tailored clothing while offering unique clothing styles.
In the afternoon, the tour will visit Xujiahui Catholic Cathedral, the Former French Concession area, Wukang Road, 1933 Old Millfun, and Jin Mao Tower.
- Xujiahui Catholic Church - St. Ignatius Cathedral, constructed in 1896 during the Qing Dynasty, was once known as ‘The largest Cathedral in the Far East’ and is now referred to as ‘the Cathedral on Sheshan’. The Gothic-style building stands 50 meters tall and is distinct among the city’s skyscrapers.
The tour will then explore the Historical Sites and Wukang Building along Wukang Road.
- Wukang Road - Wukang Road stretches only 1.17 km and features 21 outstanding city-level historical buildings and 22 district-level cultural protection relics. Each house and its details narrate its stories and history. The road’s buildings are European in style, giving visitors the feeling of being in Europe. The Wukang Building, the most famous on Wukang Road, resembles a giant vessel and was the most renowned English-styled building in Shanghai during the 1930s. Designed by the well-known architect Hudec, it remains a significant landmark.
- 1933 Old Millfun - Originally a slaughterhouse built in 1933 at the intersection of Hongkou Port and Shajing Port, 1933 Old Millfun, or 1933 Laochangfang in Chinese, has been transformed into a hub of creative art precincts and is now a center for Shanghai’s fashion, design, shopping, and entertainment. Visitors can admire Lattice Windows, Umbrella Columns, Covered Bridges, Central Atrium, and Sky Theater.
The tour will then transfer to Pudong New Area, walk along Lujiazui Ring Bridge, and visit Jin Mao Tower.
- Pudong New Area - As a vibrant district, Pudong offers visitors modern attractions, businesses, skyscrapers, and shopping malls, all showcasing the latest in entertainment, technology, and fashion. The group will walk along Lujiazui Ring Bridge, an excellent spot for photographing skyscrapers.
- Jin Mao Tower - As the fourth tallest building in Shanghai, following Shanghai Tower, Shanghai World Financial Center, and Oriental Pearl Tower, Jin Mao Tower is situated in the heart of Lujiazui Finance and Trade Zone in Pudong. Standing at 420.5 meters (nearly 1,380 feet) tall and covering an area of 2.3 hectares (5.68 acres), the skyscraper’s architect, Adrian D. Smith, skillfully combined traditional Chinese cultural elements with contemporary architectural styles, making it one of China’s best-constructed buildings. The 88th floor, the highest floor, houses the tower’s observation deck, accommodating up to 1000 people at once. From there, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of the scenery along the banks of the Huangpu River. If the weather permits, a spectacular sunset may be visible.
Afterwards, enjoy a comfortable transfer back to the hotel. Cherish the memories and bid farewell at the hotel.
