Shanghai Old Street, once known as Miaoqian Dajie, is a historic business street that blends tourist attractions, shops, entertainment, and cultural exhibits. Its unique social appeal and rich commercial history stem from being home to the city’s first bank, gold shop, jeweler, wine shop, and tea house. Exploring the old alleys of Shanghai offers a wonderful opportunity to uncover the city’s traditional culture and experience authentic Shanghainese life.
Next, the tour will visit Yu Garden, the largest ancient garden in Shanghai. -
Yu Garden (Yuyuan) - Originally a private garden of the Pan family during the Ming Dynasty, Yu Garden was the largest and most prestigious garden of its time in Shanghai.
Despite its small size, Yu Garden encompasses all the elements of a classical Chinese garden, including pavilions, halls, rockeries, ponds, and cloisters, each with distinct features. The garden’s exquisite layout, stunning scenery, and artistic architectural style make it a highlight of Shanghai.
Visitors can stroll across the Zigzag Nine Bend Bridge, which is believed to bring good luck due to the auspicious symbolism of the number nine in Chinese culture. The bridge leads to the Mid-Lake Pavilion Teahouse, the oldest teahouse in Shanghai. - Shanghai Temple Of the Town God (Chenghuang Miao) - The Old Town God Temple of Shanghai, with its rich history, draws numerous tourists from around the globe. In addition to praying, visitors can enjoy folk performances, participate in cockfighting, special calligraphy, and other acrobatic shows. The temple is renowned for its local snacks, making it a culinary paradise with a variety of restaurants lining the streets.
Following this, the group will learn about traditional Chinese Medicine at an ancient Chinese pharmacy.

South Bund Soft Spinning Material Market - Known as the Shanghai “Fabric Market,” this location is a hub for hundreds of tailors and seamstresses, making it the top destination for custom clothing in the city. Many visitors to Shanghai recommend the South Bund Spinning Material Market as a must-see. Here, visitors can select from a wide range of fabrics and collaborate with a tailor to create personalized garments.
Upon entering the market, one will notice that most shops use multiple languages on their signs, as 80% of the customers are international. “Tailor” is the standout feature, catering to both Chinese and foreign preferences for tailored clothing, while also offering unique fashion styles.
In the afternoon, the tour will visit Xujiahui Catholic Cathedral, the Former French Concession area, Wukang Road, 1933 Old Millfun, and Jin Mao Tower.
- Xujiahui Catholic Church - St. Ignatius Cathedral, constructed in 1896 during the Qing Dynasty, was once known as ‘The largest Cathedral in the Far East’ and is now referred to as ‘the Cathedral on Sheshan.’ The Gothic-style building, with its 50-meter-high top, stands out among the city’s skyscrapers.
The tour will then explore the Historical Sites and Wukang Building along Wukang Road.
-
Wukang Road - Spanning just 1.17 km, Wukang Road features 21 city-level historical buildings and 22 district-level cultural relics. Each house and its details tell stories of the past. The road’s European-style architecture gives visitors the feeling of being in Europe.
The Wukang Building, shaped like a giant vessel, was the most renowned English-style building in Shanghai during the 1930s. Designed by the famous architect Hudec, it remains a significant landmark. - 1933 Old Millfun - Originally a slaughterhouse built in 1933 at the intersection of Hongkou Port and Shajing Port, 1933 Old Millfun has been transformed into a creative art precinct and is now a hub for fashion, design, shopping, and entertainment in Shanghai. Visitors can admire the Lattice Windows, Umbrella Columns, Covered Bridges, Central Atrium, and Sky Theater.
The tour will then proceed to Pudong New Area, where the group will walk along Lujiazui Ring Bridge and visit Jin Mao Tower.
-
Pudong New Area - As a vibrant district, Pudong offers some of the most modern attractions, businesses, skyscrapers, and shopping malls, showcasing the latest in entertainment, technology, and fashion.
The group will walk along Lujiazui Ring Bridge, an excellent spot for photographing skyscrapers. -
Jin Mao Tower - As the fourth tallest building in Shanghai, following Shanghai Tower, Shanghai World Financial Center, and Oriental Pearl Tower, Jin Mao Tower is situated in the heart of Lujiazui Finance and Trade Zone in Pudong. Standing at 420.5 meters (nearly 1,380 feet) tall and covering 2.3 hectares (5.68 acres), the skyscraper was designed by architect Adrian D. Smith, who skillfully combined traditional Chinese cultural elements with contemporary architectural styles, making it one of China’s best-constructed buildings.
The 88th floor, the highest level, houses the tower’s observation deck, accommodating up to 1,000 people at a time. From there, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the Huangpu River. On clear days, there’s a chance to witness a breathtaking sunset.
