Arakurayama Sengen Park - 1. Start your journey with a visit to the revered Mount Arakura Sengen Park, where you can capture photos and explore one of the area’s oldest shrines, established by the renowned samurai, Mr. Takeda, the Lord of Yamanashi. On the same mountain, you’ll find the stunning Chureito Pagoda, offering one of the most iconic views of Mount Fuji. The mountain features two paths to these attractions: from the entrance to the pagoda, there are 400 steps, with the first 100 leading to the shrine and the remaining 300 ascending to the pagoda. Alternatively, there is a scenic slope without steps, providing equally breathtaking views. Both paths lead to the same destination.

Honcho Nichome Shotengai - After exploring Arakura Mountain, enjoy a stroll along the renowned Honcho Street, where you’ll encounter another famous view of Mount Fuji. Honcho Street in Fujiyoshida is a shopping street characterized by traditional architecture and local shops. Its historical significance is tied to its role as “Fuji Michi,” or the path to the sacred mountain. Historically, the street served as an access and pilgrimage route to Mount Fuji, offering cultural importance due to its direct connection to the sacred mountain and the stunning views it provides.

Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen Jinja Shrine - Next, visit the Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen Shrine, where you can immerse yourself in culture, history, and religion. This shrine is part of the Mt. Fuji UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site, designated in 2013. It is believed to have over 1,900 years of history, with origins dating back to 100 AD, when it was constructed as a small shrine to honor the legendary prince Yamato Takeru during his journey through the region. It serves as the true and ancient northern entrance to Mount Fuji, marking the starting point of a long pilgrimage route to the sacred mountain.

Oishi Park - After visiting this historic and beautiful site, proceed to Oishi Park, located in front of Lake Kawaguchiko. The park is constructed with stones collected by locals from Mt. Fuji, which were scattered around the lake during powerful eruptions. This park commemorates all of Fuji’s eruptions in front of the lake. Stroll through two exquisite gardens with seasonal flowers, savor 14 delightful flavors of creamy ice cream, and purchase local fruits and souvenirs. Various flowers bloom along the lakeside promenade according to the season. On sunny days, many photographers capture images of Mt. Fuji, the lake, and flowers from early morning. The park offers a large free parking area and is a popular rest stop for cyclists and motorcyclists. Enjoy a leisurely walk along the flower-lined promenade while admiring Mt. Fuji. Numerous restaurants are available in this area, making it a great spot for lunch.

Lake Kawaguchiko - “Appare” is a sightseeing cruise offering 25-minute tours around Lake Kawaguchiko, one of the Fuji Five Lakes. Depart from Appare pier on the shores of Lake Kawaguchiko and cruise under Kawaguchiko Ohashi Bridge to visit Unoshima, the only island in the Fuji Five Lakes, before making a U-turn back. Prepare to witness Mt. Fuji like never before. With a fully Japanese exterior design, this tour boat is modeled after an Atakebune warship used by warlord Takeda Shingen’s fleet during the warring states period. It is particularly popular for its striking exterior, featuring designs from the “Akazonae” military unit and the 4-diamond Takeda family crest. The boat’s interior boasts a Japanese-style design with unpainted wood reminiscent of tatami. There’s even a military “gunbai” fan and “haori” jacket available for rent if you wish to capture a photo looking like a Japanese seafarer.
