Must Do - The samurai experience was one of the most memorable and unique parts of our trip. It provided an engaging introduction to an important piece of Japanese history in a way that felt both authentic and accessible. My 5- and 11-year-old were immediately interested, especially during the hands-on portions where they learned basic movements and techniques. Practicing with the training swords was a clear highlight, and the structured instruction kept it safe while still feeling exciting. The instructor was knowledgeable, patient, and did an excellent job balancing historical context with interactive learning. The session was well-paced and never overwhelming, making it ideal for families. It struck a strong balance between education and fun, giving the kids a tangible connection to samurai culture rather than just a passive experience. This is a standout activity that offers something different from typical sightseeing. Highly recommended.

Great Experience for all. - My visit was in March 2026. This was a great experience for a family of four (youngest 10yrs). The event: The theatre had one lead teacher and a supporting teacher; both were great and very personable. They give a brief explanation of the samurai experience, but it is brief so do not expect this to be a history lesson. Each individual gets to wear a kimono and a prop sword. Each person has the chance to get "on stage" and work through the motions of sword swings and perform a "stunt". It was fun and fantastic. This was a good experience for a first-time family visiting Japan especially those wanting to experience more than shopping. Recommendations: (1) Get there on time as you may share the experience with others and if late it will start without you. (2) The location is in a very nice area in the greater Shinjuku area (just north of Chiyoda City). The main street (with your back facing the theatre) is Asahizaka; walk to the right (east) and there are very cute shops to visit. Continue down further (2 minute walk) and you will hit Kagurazaka-Dori (Hwy 24). This is an amazing local shopping district that is far from tourist areas. It will give you a better sense of the local vibe and flare without all of the trinket shops you find elsewhere.

Fantastic - A bit sceptical at first and not sure what to expect but it was absolutely amazing. Clothing and equipment was great, hosts were excellent, funny, encouraging and made it feel relaxed, the small groups make it feel less embarrassing and when you're on stage by yourself everyone gets involved and cheers. 11 days in tokyo and this was a stand out for a family of 4. Highly recommended, and I've only ever reviewed 2 places in my life 😁
