Following an introductory conversation about the intricate façade adorned with statues that represent philosophers, prophets, and sibyls as if they are in a conversation, your guide will narrate the tale of why this Cathedral remains incomplete. As the tour progresses within the Cathedral, you’ll get a chance to marvel at the engraved marble mosaic tiles, exquisite Michelangelo’s sculptures, the St. John the Baptist Chapel that hosts a piece by Donatello, and the Bernini’s Chigi Chapel, alongside murals and artwork. An exclusive journey inside the captivating Piccolomini Library is guaranteed to be a memorable experience. The wall paintings by Pinturicchio and Raffaello bring to life episodes from the biography of Enea Silvio Piccolomini, who later became Pope Pius II. Should you visit during the time when the floor is exposed, the guide will also introduce and expound on a few of the dome’s panels, brought to life by Sienese artist Domenico Beccafumi.
