Day 1 – Bucharest – Sinaia – Brasov – Sighisoara
Peles Castle - Begin the journey from Bucharest to Sinaia, often referred to as “The Pearl of the Carpathians.” This charming mountain resort is nestled in the Carpathian Mountains at an altitude of 800 meters. Visitors will explore Sinaia Monastery and Peles Castle, constructed by Romania’s first King, Carol I, as a summer royal residence. The castle is a stunning architectural masterpiece and was notably the first in Europe to have electric power.
Brasov - From Sinaia, the tour continues to Brasov, a historic medieval citadel and the most significant commercial hub among the seven German Medieval Cities (Siebenbuergen). Guests will visit the Old Town (the Historical Centre) and enjoy lunch.
Sighisoara - Sighisoara is the only inhabited medieval citadel in Europe (UNESCO heritage), preserved in its original form with ancient fortifications and towers.
Day 2 – Sighisoara – Barsana – Sapanta – Sighetu Marmatiei
Maramures County - Maramures is a region where the purity of nature harmonizes with the charm of ancient villages. Here, locals have preserved their traditions, and carved wood is a common architectural feature.
Barsana Monastery - The wooden Barsana Church, built in 1995, is the most iconic of all wooden churches in Maramures. “The Old Barsana” (UNESCO heritage) was relocated using the traditional “Dovetail” technique.
Sapanta-Peri Monastery - The Merry Cemetery is renowned for its unique and valuable carved and painted crosses, featuring humorous epitaphs typical of the area and Romanians. These artistic works are celebrated both locally and internationally. In the same village, visitors can see the world’s tallest wooden church, Sapanta Peri, standing at 78 meters.
Sighetu Marmatiei - Time permitting, a visit to the city’s infamous communist prison in Romania may be included.
Sighetu Marmatiei – Ciocanesti – Moldovita – Sucevita – Voronet – Gura Humorului
Moldovita Monastery - Moldovita Monastery, built in 1532, was initially a monastery for monks and later became a convent for nuns.
Sucevita Monastery - Sucevita is the largest of all, resembling a formidable fortress more than a monastery. It is the last to have exterior wall paintings and boasts the best-preserved frescoes in Bucovina.
Manastirea Voronet - Finally, visit the renowned Voronet Convent, also known as “The Sixtine Chapel of the Orient.” Built in 1488, Voronet Monastery is one of the first Moldavian creations showcasing a unique style. The church combines Byzantine, Gothic, and local elements. The exterior painting on the western wall uniquely depicts the Doomsday scene across five registers. Voronet Monastery is part of the universal cultural heritage, famed for its distinctive “Voronet blue” in the paintings.
Day 4 – Gura Humorului – Tulcea
Tulcea County - After breakfast, the journey continues to the Danube Delta. The scenic route passes through numerous towns and villages, offering a glimpse of both city and countryside life. A lunch break is included. In the evening, the tour reaches its final destination, Tulcea, known as the Gate of the Danube Delta. This city is one of the oldest settlements in Romania, dating back to a Greek colony in the 8th century B.C.
Day 5 – Tulcea – Bucharest
Danube Delta - The day begins with a boat tour through the channels of the Danube Delta (UNESCO heritage). The Danube Delta is Europe’s largest and best-preserved delta, covering 3,446 square kilometers.
