- Singapore River - The bike tour starts at the Singapore River and proceeds to Chinatown. Along the route, participants will be introduced to the Speakers’ Corner and Parkroyal Collection Pickering, known as the greenest hotel in Singapore. The tour will navigate through Chinatown’s streets, stopping at the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple to discuss its history and features, as well as the local lifestyle.
- Tiong Bahru - The next stop is Tiong Bahru, Singapore’s oldest housing district. It comprises about 30 blocks of two-story social housing built by the British under the Singapore Improvement Trust (SIT). Here, the tour will reflect on the 1930s and Singapore’s ability to provide affordable housing to over 80% of its population. This historic area is now a popular residential site for expatriates due to its proximity to the city and unique architecture.
- Robertson Quay - The tour continues to Robertson Quay along the Singapore River. This area is a vibrant enclave for expatriates, offering a live-work-play environment. Located near the city, it boasts numerous entertainment venues, including bars, restaurants, and malls lining the river. With some luck, participants might spot Smooth-coated otters enjoying a family outing by the river. Caution is advised, as they may bite if threatened.
- Fort Canning Park - The ride proceeds to the base of Fort Canning, also known as the Forbidden Hill. This mystical hill is home to the tombs of Singapore’s last kings and the historic Battle Box, an underground bunker used by the British during World War II.
- Central Fire Station - A break is scheduled at the walkway cafeteria to sample local coffee, toast, or other snacks before continuing.
- Raffles Hotel Arcade - As the tour zips through Singapore’s streets, it passes the renowned Raffles Hotel, considered the crown jewel of Singapore’s hotels. Here, one can explore the famous Singapore Sling, a pineapple fruit punch with gin and Benedictine (not included in the tour).
- Haji Lane - Haji Lane is home to Singapore’s indigenous community. Visitors will be captivated by the colorful street shops and beautifully painted murals. Note that graffiti is illegal in Singapore. The tour highlights the stunning Sultan Mosque, featuring a black ring under its dome made from soy sauce bottles, showcasing early recycling efforts. The Sultan’s Palace, now a museum known as the Malay Heritage Centre, is also featured.
- Marina Bay - Transitioning from a cultural enclave to a modern metropolis, Marina Bay, with its iconic Marina Bay Sands hotel, attracts thousands to experience the infinity pool atop Singapore’s largest hotel. The tour offers spectacular views of the Marina waterfront en route to the F1 race track, home to the world’s first night street race.
- Boat Quay - The final stop is the Raffles Landing Site at Boat Quay, where Sir Stamford Raffles, the British founder, first landed in Singapore. This area faces the commercial hub, known as Singapore’s Wall Street. The tour concludes promptly at the office where it began.
