- Castelo dos Mouros - Moorish Castle – Sintra Monuments Skirting two Sintra mountain ranges, the Moorish Castle dates back to the early days of the Moorish occupation of the Peninsula - the eighth century. After many attempts, was finally taken by Dom Afonso Henriques first king of Portugal in 1147, and was built the first Christian Chapel of the city, dedicated to St. Peter of Penaferrim. In the romantic period, in 1860, the walls were restored under the supervision of Dom Fernando II, husband of Dona Maria II, who wooded the surrounding areas, and gave a new dignity to the ancient medieval ruins. Noteworthy is the Moorish Cistern inside and the so-called Royal Tower. Located about 3.5 km from the historic center of Sintra.

Sensational visit to Sintra - We made a tour of Sintra accompanied by the guide Carlos who was extremely attentive to us, took us to beautiful places and also explained to us all the history and importance of the places, thanks to the company Fantástic Raide especially to the guide Carlos.

Excellent tour! - George was excellent and most helpful. Information for meeting was simple and easy to follow. He was able to adjust and be flexible with our family. The information and knowledge he shared about Lisbon and Sintra along the way was very nice. Highly Recommend!

Fun Day at Sintra - We had a wonderful day with Filipe visiting Sintra and the other sites nearby. Pena Palace is beautiful! Filipe was very knowledgeable and professional. He recommended a great pastry shop in Sintra that was a fun and tasty break from all of the walking we did around the palace grounds.

Felipe was fantastic! - I am so embarrassed to say I thought Pena Palace WAS Sintra! I had no idea Sintra was the area and there are many palaces to visit! Felipe our amazing guide from Fantastic Ride in Lisbon took us to the beautiful, romantic Pena Palace first. It is wonderful to be travelling again and talking to guides in the industry to see how they have coped and are coping with the impact of the pandemic. The mood is very upbeat so let’s hope it continues. Felipe then took us for coffee and pastries after exploring Pena and afterwards wanted to show us the other side of Sintra, the mysterious side, so we headed to Regaleira Palace. Lots of gothic style, Templar folklore and free masonary.. 20 years ago nobody bothered with this Palace and Felipe and his friends used to explore the place when it was pitch black and scary! Now it is a UNESCO world heritage site! The well was particularly amazing and Felipe knew just how to make the trip personal to us. Taking care of my elderly mum on the steps and not overwhelming us with too much detail at any one point.

Perfect Sintra Tour - We had a private tour for four people with Filipe. He was terrific! He customized everything to accommodate us. We saw the Pena Palace, Palace of Sintra, Quinta da Regaleira, the Old center of Sintra (complete with pastries), the coastline and the Christ Statue in Lisbon. Highly recommend!

Magic! - We visited Sintra with Filipe! Incredible day not to be missed! Filipe is adorable and we learned so much during the visit of the Peña Palace and the incredible Quinta da Regaleira. I highly recommend it.

Not enough time to see it all - Our driver, Jorge, was great. He told us about the places, knew his way around the roads, and advised us how to get Pena Palace tram tickets without waiting in a line. The restaurant he took us to for lunch was also wonderful. He gave his advice for restaurants and other sights to see while in Lisbon.
However, I do not think the stated itinerary is possible given the lines at the various locations. Our tour started at 9a, I think it needed to start at least by 8a to get us to Sintra when it opened. We had to skip the Moorish Castle to make our 11a time slot (pre-purchased) for Pena Palace. On a rainy day in October it took 40 minutes to get through the line at the gate to the 11a line at the palace, and another hour to get into the palace from there. I would recommend getting Pena Palace tickets in advance for the earliest possible timeslot and going straight there. Leave a couple of hours for Quinta da Regaleira after. Unfortunately, we did not have time to visit the National Palace or the Moorish Castle.

Great Driver, but Long Lines - This is not a tour, but a private driver that transports you between sights and arranges for a fantastic lunch. I would recommend the itinerary start with Pena Palace to avoid waiting in long lines and then onto the Moorish Castle. Our driver was great and provided us with insights to/from the Sintra, but at the price, we'd anticipated more of a tour guide at each of the locations.
