Established over a millennium ago under Islamic rule, it held a strategic position for defending the surrounding territory and maritime routes to Lisbon. Artefacts discovered here reveal that a community once thrived within the walls and nearby areas, now known as the Islamic Quarter.
- Park and National Palace of Pena - The enchanting history of this site dates back to the 12th century when a chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Pena was located here. On this site, King Manuel I commissioned the construction of a Monastery, the Royal Monastery of Our Lady of Pena, which was later entrusted to the Hieronymite Order.

Neel the local legend - We had a fantastic experience with Neel - from start to finish, he was knowledgeable, engaging and genuinely passionate about his country and its history. Great local knowledge of where to eat, shop and visit. Would highly recommend to any traveller who wants a memorable experience!

Amazing and complete Sintra Experience! - We had a phenomenal day with Mr. fantastic! This was one of the only tours that we could find that would do the Moorish Castle, Pena Palace, AND Quinta Regaleira. We really appreciated the knowledgeable guide and very smooth logistics of the entire day. We got to see all the sights we wanted in Sintra. The great views and ruins of the Moorish Castle were spectacular. Then, we got to go to the Pena Palace, which our guide was able to deftly navigate the lines, and held our place while we ate at the cafe. We also had a good lunch with a helpful recommendation from Mr. Fantastic. Overall an amazing experience which we would not have been able to do in one day otherwise. Highly recommend!!

Sinatra, Pena Palace, and Castle - The day is full so you need a guide who understand the crowds and what to do when and where. Between Pena Palace, Santa, Moorish Castle, all was completed and avoided big crowds. NAYEM was Awesome!!!

We had a Fantastic day with “Mr Fantastic”! - What a great day with a great host. Mr Fantastic is so knowledgeable, so friendly and best of all, very accommodating. We felt so comfortable with him the entire day. His knowledge of the sites, the history and making sure we were happy the entire time was greatly appreciated. We have been on many, many Viators and Mr. Fantastic was by far one of the best hosts we have ever had. Anyone would be very lucky to have him as their tour guide in the Sintra area. Thank you very much, Mr Fantastic!!

Sintra and environs day trip from Lisbon - We had a wonderful day trip with our tour guide! Being March and chilly weather with a chance of rain things were not as busy as normal and we were able to see all the sights without issue. We also got to Cabo de Roca and Cascais which were very pretty. And he picked us up and dropped off at our VRBO which made it all so easy. Great trip. We did have to book our own tickets to the palaces with the appropriate entry times but that is easy and you want those ahead of time to skip lines and get small discount. Highly recommend
