- Sintra Railway Station - This tour aims to achieve two main objectives: to immerse you in genuine history and intriguing stories through the insights of Sintra’s leading independent history researcher, and to leave you with cherished memories of beautiful sights and experiences.
You will be picked up at Sintra’s train station around 9 a.m. The tour includes entry to Sintra’s monuments, guided by a historian, and a traditional lunch where you can savor authentic Portuguese cuisine. Everything is taken care of for you.
- Quinta da Regaleira - Our first stop is Quinta da Regaleira, where you’ll explore the captivating Masonic imagery and hear factual stories beyond typical tourist narratives. Historian Miguel Boim will guide you through the gardens’ highlights, including the renowned initiation well.
- Parque e Palacio de Monserrate - From the outside, unless the Capuchos Convent is skipped, you’ll learn about its origins and how Lord Byron perceived its decline, partly due to the Peninsular War.
- Cabo da Roca - You’ll visit the westernmost point of Europe at Cabo da Roca, where you’ll view the Atlantic Ocean and discover why pirates and corsairs avoided the coast. For those returning from the East Indies and the New World, the sight of Cape of Rock was a great relief after long voyages.
- Praia da Adraga - You’ll see Adraga beach and enjoy lunch near Almoçageme. The lunch, included in the tour, focuses on traditional Portuguese cuisine rather than fast food.
- Convento dos Capuchos - At the Convent, you’ll see how the site has preserved much of its original nature. Miguel Boim will share insights into the friars’ practices and religious phenomena documented in chronicles from over three centuries ago.
- Chalet da Condessa D’Edla - At Chalet da Condessa, you’ll enter Pena Park. Touring the Chalet’s interior will help you understand the origins of Pena Park and the lush landscape of the Sintra Mountains.
- Park and National Palace of Pena - After leaving the Chalet, you’ll traverse Pena Park, where your historian will highlight its most fascinating aspects. This will enhance your understanding of the romantic vision that inspired Pena in the 19th century.
At the end of the park, you’ll reach Pena Palace (19th century) and explore its interior, learning about its history from the 16th century and earlier, according to local tradition.
After visiting the palace, you’ll return to the train station, hoping this day in Sintra has left a lasting impression on your heart.
- Sintra Railway Station - This is where the tour concludes, but the memories of Sintra will remain with you.
