• State Historical, Architectural and Ethnographic Reserve Khinalig - Located about an hour’s drive along a new road from Quba is Khinalug, the oldest village in Azerbaijan. Situated at 2,100-2,200 m (6,900-7,220 ft) above sea level, Khinalug has developed its own distinct culture, traditions, and even its own language. The villagers refer to the place as Kyat and believe they are direct descendants of the biblical Noah. Khinalug is over 5,000 years old. For centuries, this village was isolated from the rest of civilization by towering mountains and treacherous rocky cliffs. This isolation allowed the villagers to preserve their unique language, which is unrelated to any other language family, as well as their distinctive traditions and customs, found nowhere else.
