Prizren is among the oldest settlements in Kosovo and the western Balkans. Archaeological digs at Prizren Fortress reveal that the area has been inhabited since the Bronze Age (around 2000 BCE). Prizren is traditionally associated with the Roman Dardania settlement of Theranda.
• Kalaja Fortress - Prizren Fortress is a hilltop stronghold overlooking the river that flows through Prizren, which developed around the fortress. It is located on a prominent hill on the eastern side of Prizren, strategically positioned with contours that follow the natural features of the terrain. While in Prizren, visitors have the opportunity to explore this site independently, as the fortress is accessible with a 20-minute uphill walk.
