Kyleakin, Skye Bridge, Armadale Castle

Kyleakin - To reach Kyleakin, continue on the A863 for about half a mile, then turn right onto the A87. This route leads directly into Kyleakin, where you can cross the Skye Bridge back to the mainland.

Skye Bridge - Before the era of warring clans, Skye was part of significant geological transformations. Leitir Fura - To reach Leitir Fura, turn left onto the side road ahead, following signs for Kinloch Forest and Leitir Fura Road. This road ends at a public parking area after about a mile.

Loch na Keal - The navigable sounds and sea lochs made the Hebrides appealing to Norse adventurers in the 8th century, with the first Viking raid on Skye recorded in 794.

Dunscaith Castle - Dunscaith Castle, the original seat of the MacDonalds of Sleat, has been fortified, destroyed, rebuilt, captured, and recaptured numerous times, with its origins shrouded in history.

Caisteal Maol - Now in ruins, this castle adds to Skye’s fairytale-like scenery. Look for a brown sign for Torabhaig Distillery on the left. Beyond the distillery, a stone tower can be seen perched on a hill, overlooking the sea.

Broadford - Approaching the optional side trip to Elgol, a coastal village about 40 minutes from Broadford on a narrow road. Elgol is a popular spot for boat tours through glacial lochs and visiting seal colonies.

Elgol - Elgol is a seaside village that has thrived since the Middle Ages, ideally located for fishing and crofting, where Allt Port na Cullaidh flows into Loch Scavaig.

Boreraig - Boreraig offers a hauntingly beautiful hike through an abandoned village. The hike starts at the Church of Kilchrist and covers just over 6 miles round-trip.

Torrin - Known for its marble and limestone quarries, the marble quarry is visible ahead on the left, appearing as a line of silver-white stone rising above the farmland.

Blà Bheinn - Although closer to the Red Cuillins range, Blà Bheinn is composed of the same igneous rock, gabbro, as the Black Cuillins range to the west, leading geologists to theorize it as an outlier of that range.

Sligachan Old Bridge - The Sligachan Old Bridge, a 19th-century stone bridge, offers a picturesque view over the rocky river with the majestic Black Cuillins in the background.

The Old Man of Storr - Once part of a plateau, the Old Man of Storr stands as surrounding rock has eroded over time.

Lealt Falls - A powerful waterfall plunging into a deep, cold-water pool at the gorge’s bottom. A quick visit is highly recommended.

Brother’s Point (Rubha nam Brathairean) - Brother’s Point is a narrow rocky land extension from Trotternish. Paths to notable sites can be steep and slippery, so sturdy shoes and good footing are advised.

Staffin - Staffin is a hub for several attractions worth visiting in Trotternish, including hunting for dinosaur footprints at An Corran Beach, touring the Jurassic Skye Museum, and hiking the Quiraing cliffs.

An Corran Beach - An Corran Beach is a favorite spot for finding fossilized dinosaur footprints. Passing through Staffin first, it’s a good place to stop before heading to the beach.
