- Manoel Island - Sailing past Manoel Island.
Manoel Island, once known as Bishop’s Island or the Isolotto, is a small island within the Gżira municipality in Marsamxett Harbour, Malta. It is named after the Portuguese Grand Master António Manoel de Vilhena, who constructed a fort on the island in the 1720s.
Manoel Island features a low, flat hill, roughly leaf-shaped. It is situated in the center of Marsamxett Harbour, with Lazzaretto Creek to the south and Sliema Creek to the north. The island is linked to mainland Malta by a bridge. The entire island can be viewed from the bastions of Valletta, the capital.

The Lazzaretto was a former quarantine station and hospital on Manoel Island. It comprises various buildings from the 17th and 19th centuries. Most structures still stand, although they are in poor condition due to World War II damage and over 30 years of neglect. Plans are in place to restore the Lazzaretto.

This expansive waterway separates Valletta, the capital city, from the historic Three Cities of Vittoriosa, Senglea, and Cospicua, and has been a hub of maritime activity for over two thousand years. Encircled by imposing fortifications and offering a vast panoramic view, the Grand Harbour remains Malta’s main maritime gateway and a popular port of call for Mediterranean cruises.
During the stop at the Grand Harbour, dinner will be served on board, allowing guests to unwind and soak in the ambiance of this iconic location.
