Unirea Salt Mine - Situated in Slănic, Prahova County, Romania, approximately 100 km north of Bucharest, the Slănic mine is a historic salt mine. Although it no longer serves extraction purposes, it welcomes visitors to experience its unique microclimate, which offers natural air-conditioning and maintains a consistent temperature and atmospheric pressure year-round. The mine consists of two levels, named Unirea and Mihai. Many visitors are drawn by the reputed healing properties of the pure air. Inside the mine, there are various recreational facilities, including playground equipment and ping-pong tables. A designated area is reserved for medical patients with lung cancer to rest and recuperate.

Renowned for its vast underground galleries, this mine ranks among the largest salt excavations in Europe. As you journey 200 meters below ground, you’ll be captivated by the towering salt walls, expansive chambers, and sculptures intricately carved into the mineral-rich rock. The mine’s constant, cool microclimate and exceptionally pure air create a unique underground oasis, reputed for its therapeutic benefits.
In the afternoon, head north to Snagov Monastery, a serene 15th-century sanctuary situated on an island in the heart of Snagov Lake. Accessible via a narrow bridge, the monastery is steeped in legend as the alleged burial site of Vlad the Impaler—historically feared and famously known as Dracula. The island’s tranquil beauty, coupled with the monastery’s ancient frescoes and mythical charm, provides a mysterious conclusion to a day brimming with wonder and history.
