On this tour you will learn about the geology of Iceland, its volcanoes and lava tubes.
The cave is right next to Snfellsjkull, the stratovolcano that was made famous by Jules Verne and his story “A Journey to the Center of the Earth”. Join us on a tour in Vatnshellir Cave to take the first steps in the Journey!

Totally Worth It - I took my family with two young kids (6/8). The guide was knowledgeable and left a great experience for everyone. My son was incorporated into the tour and had a beaming smile throughout. It’s relatively affordable (especially by Iceland standards of cost) and was a highlight of the day and the trip. It’s not hard to walk through, even with the uneven ground. Wear boots or study shoes for sure. You should also dress warm, as the temperatures in the lava tube was in the single digits Celsius. There are no washrooms on site, however the visitor centre at the Malarrif Lighthouse is only 2 km away and has very clean washrooms.

Fantastic Lava Cave Tour - Informative and interesting tour of a lava cave. The guide was fantastic and it was such a unique experience. Very different than the caves at home.

Going Down the Tubes - Snaefellsness is all about seeing the impact of volcanoes and geological movement above ground, but going underground adds another layer of understanding to the experience! Well done!!

Vatnshellir Cave - This tour was amazing. We learned so much about the geology of the cave. Our guide was knowledgeable and passionate. This is a must do activity of Iceland.

good recommendation - You get flashlights and helmets, then climb down two convertible stairs into lava tube.
Was great, very interesting are the different types of lava. Since I have already seen several stalactite caves, I thought I could save that, but was pleasantly surprised and did not regret the visit.
Impressive was a moment of silence. All the lamps were switched off and all had to remain silent for two minutes - absolute darkness and silence. The explanations were also very good.

Great experience! - This was a fun cave tour! Our guide was very knowledgeable and entertaining. It was neat to find out that this was where the entrance to Jules Verne’s “Journey to the Center of the Earth” began!

Fun cave tour! - We had a blast exploring the lava tube cave! It was very, very dark. And a bit chilly! Bring your puffer.
