Sal Tome visit review - Tendering adds to the issue but after getting to the dock the trip was excellent. Good driver, great guide. Island very lush and the main road fine.

Just okay - Long journey out to the peak. Could have done with a stop in the town. Felt a bit rushed in the time we had. Is a tender port and arrival was delayed by over an hour. I would guess this happens a lot, so the length of proposed tour is too much

Fair. - Good tour but the drive to see the mountain was too long and unnecessary. We didn’t get to see the city (museum, church, buildings) bc our ship’s tenders took too long. We were 1.5 hours late for the tour. They did their best but I would have preferred to see some city highlights. Also, no need to see the abandoned hospital. Be aware, bus is very basic! No air conditioning

São Tomé tour - Through no fault of the operator we lost at least one hour of the tour due to complications of getting off the ship. Guide extremely knowledgeable but perhaps included too much information that was hard to take in because of his strong accent. Not sure if bus was meant to be air conditioned? Water provided but not cold. At no time did guide give information regarding bathroom/toilet stops. I’m assuming because of time restraints the stops around the township were skipped but a stop to a chocolate shop was added at a passengers request. Personally I would have preferred to drive around the township to at least see where the cathedral and museum were. I think it would have been useful if the guide used a microphone. He was difficult to hear at the back of the bus, especially taking his accent into consideration.

Hot, primitive long short day - There was no AC (supposedly some once the engine was running on the road but it was minor) so we opened the windows and it was tolerable while moving. Anjeo was enthusiastic at first - but as the morning went on - pretty much no dialog unless we asked questions. His english was passable and you could tell he was very interested in getting the communication right. He was probably disappointed in our group not trying the fried bananas & a required stop along the road for the 90-year old Dad with us who needed to use a restroom - none would be available soon enough. The driver did a good job getting us places. I'm not sure if we didn't get to the waterfall intended due to some mobility challenges with 2 of the 7 of our party - same with the view of Pico Cao. There was no walking/hiking. So not sure why this was labeled that need to be in moderate fitness unless we got cut short. With the hour+ late start & lack of air - I think we cut short the last bit so saw an abbreviated view of town - no souvenir stop. At the chocolate shop - able to use only VISA credit cards or large US$ denomination bills ($50 or $100 etc. Really tried to get some Dobra but seemed no one wanted to give it up for small bills. The drive was long and rough in areas - some beautiful scenery - good view into the local life, but lots of same for the 4 hrs driving up and back. Glad I did it but not sure the others in our group are. I would recommend this for adventurous folks who are willing to tough it out for a good overview of the island, but not for typical cruise ship tourists without the AC.

Think twice before you book - Although advertised as an English tour with lunch, neither guide could speak English, nor did we see any lunch. The lunch was removed from the advertisement, after I paid for my trip. We saw a lot of the island, which is beautiful, because we drove long distances to park on a road and take a photo of the rock. We then walked a difficult path, to see a small waterfall. We did not see any of the stops inside the city, because the guide wanted to start the city aspect of the tour, within half hour of the last tender boat’s departure. There was bottled water in the bus and they handed out homemade dried bananas. The tour was very expensive but there was no value for money.
