A special feature is the large five-pointed star that once adorned the former Party House in Sofia’s center. If the trip falls on a Monday, the museum visit will be replaced with a visit to another remarkable Communist monument, the Bells Park. This park was established in 1979 by the daughter of Bulgaria’s last Communist leader as part of the “Flag of Peace” initiative. It served as a meeting place for children from both sides of the Iron Curtain, who created bells now showcased in the park.
- Buzludzha Monument - After exploring the museum, the tour continues to the next destination, the Buzludzha Monument, a significant landmark from the socialist era. Following a scenic 3-hour drive, the Buzludzha Monument is reached. Built in 1981 to honor socialism, construction began in 1974 with the Bulgarian Army and numerous artisans contributing to the statues and murals. After the government’s fall in 1989, the site was abandoned and subjected to vandalism.
