Great tour but..... - Totally enjoyed the old city and its sites. Our guide Maria was awesome..knowledgable, friendly, caring and very efficient. Highly recommend Maria and the old part of the city. It was very, very hot and despite our request to torn up the a/c that never happened. Did not care for the driver. On return to Sophia he didn't even wait for me to sit down before taking off, almost fell. Then before passing trucks ahead of him he would "tail" them very, very closely and not at all safe for the high speed he was going. He did this MANY times and although we returned safely my wife and I felt he was speeding and drove unsafely. He also needs to be a little more customer friendly, a smile would help! But overall the tour, because of Maria, was excellent.

Worth it - Very good tour, Plovdiv is beautiful and we really liked it, especially the Roman theater. Guide Martin was very good and friendly, he told us many things about the history of Bulgaria and Plovdiv.

Chris is the best guide - Chris was a really good guide, everything happened as planned. In the city he talked about every mentionable house and also he gave us a good overview about Plovdiv. It was a really good tour!

Bulgarian Pride - The city of Plovdiv has been a discovery: Bulgarian history, art, tradition and pride. Nice to visit you. And the excursion with Hristo was very interesting, with good pace (neither slow nor fast) with useful and relevant information. A very professional guide. All perfect, in a word. A but: in the end there is so much to see that the return at 15:15 is a short time ago.

Basically a day of transport from Sofia to Plovdiv & back in a big slow bus - Understand this is basically a tour mostly just gets you to Plovdiv from Sofia w/minimal guide activity involved & then back. As in it took way, way too long to get from Sofia to the drop off point-over 3 hours due to way too much freeway traffic + construction, then about an hour & 1/2 of the guide taking you to points of interest then about an hour & a 1/2 of very rushed free time that includes getting a way, way too late lunch (around 2 pm) then at least on the way back the bus (not a van-there were about 25 peeps on it) took a different route so it only took 2 & a 1/2 hours to get back-so about a 9 hour day w/only 3 hours in Plovdiv. Plovdiv is lovely & historic but someday in the distance future if I return to Bulgaria I would spend a couple of days there but at least this was a primer for me as that is how I travel these days in retirement to find locales that I want to return in the future. Finally our guide was fine & nice but her history talks, etc. in the bus were mostly unmemorable as she was not really a high energy person.

Trip to walk - This is an average trip. The place has some interesting things but not an exciting town. There is lot of history spread around. Be prepared with comfortable shoes.

Worth going to escape Sofia - Overall, the tour guide was nice and friendly. However, I'd like to highlight a couple of points that downgrade my review to 3 out of 5: 1. Firstly, the road to Plovdiv from Sofia and back was silent. This time could be used to share more background information about Bulgaria's history and culture. In turn, the tour was mostly limited to Plovdiv's historic centre; 2. Secondly, there was certain misinformation spread concerning the monument to the memory of Soviet soldiers in Plovdiv.
