Excellent Free Walking Tour with Yoan - 5 Stars! - Just finished the Free Sofia Tour with Yoan and it was fantastic! Yoan is clearly passionate about Sofia's history and does an amazing job bringing the city's complex past to life, also patiently answered many our questions about the country! What I loved most was how balanced his storytelling was. He covered everything from ancient Thracian civilization through Ottoman rule, the dramatic 1925 cathedral bombing, Bulgaria's complicated WWII history (including how they saved their Jewish population), communist times, and modern challenges. No sugar-coating, just fascinating, well-researched history presented in an engaging way. The route hits all the major spots: Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, St. George Rotunda, ancient Roman ruins, and more, but Yoan's commentary is what makes it special. His background in law really shows in how thoughtfully he explains things, and he's great at answering questions from the diverse group of travelers. Small touches like tasting the mineral spring water and learning about traditional Bulgarian dancing added nice cultural flavor. If you're in Sofia, definitely go with this tour directly through their website (I didn't even book it, just show up and you will see the group, I really love this flexibility). Highly recommend!

Amazing tour! - This tour is the perfect way to get an overarching idea of the history of Bulgaria. It really helped put what you're seeing into context. Unfortunately, we arrived slightly late so we don't remember our guide's name (28th Morning tour) but he was brilliant - his story telling really brought the tour alive. We appreciated his anecdotes and thoughtful analysis of the events he was covering.

She answered all our questions and she made the 2 hour walking tour, worthwhile. I would recommend this for anyone who’s looking to get some insights into the architecture and then explore on your own.

Time well spent! - This was a very interesting and engaging tour made especially nice by our guide, Imo. He is very knowledgeable and has a nice sense of humor as well as pride in his city and his country. I highly recommend this and If I were staying longer, I would also take the communist tour to balance what I learned today.
