As a marine biologist with a penchant for adventure, I was drawn to the idea of bay fishing at South Padre Island. The promise of targeting sand trout and whiting, along with the chance to reel in a variety of other fish, was too tempting to resist. Boarding the 49-foot vessel, the Hard Bottom Too, I was greeted by a friendly crew who immediately made me feel at home. The boat was well-equipped with bait, tackle, and rods, making it convenient for everyone onboard.
The evening trip began with a gentle breeze, setting the perfect tone for our adventure. The waters of the lower Laguna Madre shimmered under the setting sun, and the anticipation of the catch was palpable among the 15-20 fellow anglers.
