-
Moab Fault Overlook - At the Moab Fault viewpoint, visitors can observe the impressive effects of immense pressure that separated the viewpoint area from the cliff wall across the canyon.
-
Petrified Dunes - This expansive area features unique lumpy rock formations. Although they may not appear so initially, these are actually sand dunes, similar to those in the Sahara. Specifically, they are petrified sand dunes, meaning the sand solidified into rock around 200 million years ago.
-
Delicate Arch - This is arguably the most renowned arch in Arches National Park. In fact, it is featured on the Utah state license plate! While not the tallest in the park, Delicate Arch has a distinctive charm that draws visitors from around the globe.
-
Lower Delicate Arch Viewpoint - For those short on time or without a reservation for the three-mile hike to Delicate Arch, the arch can still be viewed from two viewpoints. The trail to the lower viewpoint is a brief 100-foot walk from the parking lot. The second trail leads to the upper viewpoint, approximately a half-mile round trip.
-
Salt Valley Overlook - Salt Valley was once known as the paradox formation because early geologists couldn’t determine its origin. Fortunately, Shaka Guide provides clarity on this.
-
Fiery Furnace - This area is named for the way the rocks appear to glow like fire when the sun hits them at the right angle. A permit-only hike through the Fiery Furnace is available, but permits are limited and must be reserved online. The hike is not recommended on our tour due to its difficulty, but reservations can be made for those eager to explore it.
-
Sand Dune Arch - A short walk leads to Sand Dune Arch, featuring a sand pit that children of all ages enjoy. There is a two-mile hike to Broken Arch and a rugged road leading further to Tower Arch.
-
Skyline Arch - This large arch sits just above the horizon, framing the sky like a beautiful window. No hiking is necessary, but a 10-minute walk will bring you closer to the arch.
-
Devils Garden - At Devils Garden, a network of trails connects seven arches and numerous fins, spires, and other formations. It’s recommended to allocate time to park here, explore, and admire the arches. The hike is short, about two miles, and well worth it. Picnic tables and a restroom are available for relaxation. The most famous formation on the Devil’s Garden Trail is the Landscape Arch, the longest arch in North America.
-
Park Avenue Trail - Visitors often compare the feeling of standing among the rock formations in Park Avenue to standing next to the towering skyscrapers in New York City.
-
La Sal Mountains Viewpoint - “La Sal” means “the salt” in Spanish. The mountains were named in 1776 when Spanish explorers thought the snowy peaks resembled giant piles of salt. The highest peak, Mount Peale, stands over 12,000 feet or around 3,600 meters high.
-
Courthouse Towers - This area features a series of massive sandstone rock formations, including the Three Gossips, The Organ, and Sheep Rock.
-
Balanced Rock Trail - Balanced Rock rises over 120 feet or 11 stories tall. This impressive hoodoo has a ball on top that seems perfectly balanced on the spire below.
-
The Windows Road - This area boasts over 30 magnificent arches, including The Windows, Turret Arch, and Double Arch, which was featured in the opening scenes of “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.”
-
Garden of Eden - The Garden of Eden is a wonderful place to explore. This open terrain is dotted with fins, windows, and miniature arches, or even arches still forming. There is no designated trail, so be mindful of the biocrust. Owl Rock is just a short distance from the parking lot.
-
Pothole Arch - Unlike the other arches on the tour, Pothole Arch is horizontal rather than vertical.
-
Panorama Point - From this elevated viewpoint, visitors can see for miles in several directions. To the north is Devil’s Garden and the Fiery Furnace, while to the south, Elephant Butte, the park’s highest point at 5,600 feet, is visible.
