We’ll hike, climb, scramble, shimmy, and rappel through a beautiful red rock, water carved canyon. The finale of the technical section sometimes includes a swim through chilly water – refreshing during the summer months, though this quality prohibits us from comfortably visiting this canyon in all but the hottest months of the year. This tour is suitable for beginner and experienced canyoneers alike. Desert Highlights has experienced and knowledgeable guides that will literally “show you the ropes”, ensuring your safety and teaching you everything you need to know to descend the canyon safely. This canyon includes a 15-foot rappel and an optional 90-foot rappel. We are extremely passionate about our backyard and you’ll gain knowledge and respect for our desert environment while out on your Moab canyoneering adventure! This tour typically lasts anywhere from 4 to 6 hours.
Please be prepared to wade or swim through water in this canyon. We require closed toe shoes to be worn for this whole trip

This half-day canyoneering tour takes you on a route established by Desert Highlights’ founder as a technical guided canyoneering path in the late 1990s. This adventure leads to areas that most would not explore independently. With ropes, technical equipment, an experienced guide, and a spirit of adventure, participants can access otherwise unreachable locations. The Moab desert is our home, and we are enthusiastic about sharing it with others. On this guided tour, you will safely descend a stunning, water-sculpted canyon while learning about the area’s flora, fauna, geology, and history, which we are fortunate to have in our backyard.

best adventure tour group in Moab!! - Our experience with Desert Highlights was nothing but positive. The tour was just as described, or better, with great explanations of the geography and local history. I was rather nervous about repelling, but our guide,Jacob, talked us through every step and I felt very safe and supported. It was a thrilling experience and I am so glad I took the plunge (at 70 yo!). I can't say enough about this company - you won't be disappointed!

Excellent day out! - We had a great time with Preston as our guide. It was the first time canyoneering for all of us & Preston made everyone feel comfortable & safe. Our kids, age 9 & 12, absolutely loved it and said they’d do it again for sure. The hike out after the second rappel was beautiful as well. Great place to visit, wonderful guide, highly recommended!

Awesome Experience - We have now done 3 separate adventures with Desert Highlights. Most recently, they took my family including my 78 year old mother and 9 year old daughter through medieval chamber. Kai was very helpful over the phone understanding the skill level of my family. She helped to calm my nerves and helped us pick the right trip for our group. Jake was our guide through the canyon. He was professional, skilled and patient throughout the day. He was able to access fitness abilities/limitations and make accommodations for all involved. This allowed all of us to feel accomplished and challenged. I highly recommend this company for your adventure.

A great into to canyoneering - Highly recommend this tour. Our guide Preston was a pro and made sure we were, and felt, safe every step of the way. There was some scrambling up a tight, steep crack between two fins that was a bit nerve-wracking but totally doable, even for an older (but active) guy like me. The first rappel, 100+ feet down next to the amazing Pool Arch, I definitely had to psych myself up for, but Preston gently coached me through it and showed me exactly what to do to enjoy it. After that I felt more comfortable in myself and had a fantastic time. The scenery and sense of adventure on this tour are fantastic.

First Class Experience at a Competitive Price - For our first canyoneering trip Desert Highlights made it a memorable one. Preston was friendly, conscientious, knowledgeable, and great with our kids. He helped us all find the confidence to try something scary and helped us feel safe and have fun. There are lots of adventure guide companies in Moab, but we'll be coming back to Desert Highlights for sure. Our guide gave us a great experience, recommended a great restaurant for dinner afterward, took great photos, and picked up every bit of litter he encountered on the hike out.

Wonderful Canyoneering Adventure! - Our three person adventure with our guide Jake was phenomenal. His easy going personality put us both at ease, especially my husband and friend who aren't too crazy about rappelling since they aren't comfortable with heights.
Jake was patient and very informative about the area and plants. He also explained the rappelling process to the level of which we needed to know. Some people require little information! Not me! Jake is a true teacher!
The pace was perfect for our two rappels: Medieval Arch and Morning Glory Bridge. This was an excellent 'beginner' adventure with only a half day vested. DH will prepare you with a list of what is needed so you can successfully complete the rappel and hike.
I have used Desert Highlights for about 4 adventures now, and I will continue to do so! We were safe, entertained, taught and guided with the most thoughtful and kind consideration! Check them out! Love, love!!

Adventure with Jake - This was an excellent adventure! Our guide, Jake was very accommodating. The Viator site failed to tell us we would be chest deep in water at times, so we failed to bring appropriate footwear for that. Jake immediately pivoted and brought us on a different adventure that was just amazing. Two great rappels, some small stream crossings that could be negotiated without getting shoes too wet, and a 4 mile hike. A great 5 hour adventure!

Amazing Family Canyoneering Experience!! - Our canyoneering experience with Preston was amazing. He was very attentive to our family, ensuring an exciting experience while also keeping our safety first and foremost. Preston eased our minds with any trepidation with obstacles we were coming upon. He was also very interesting to talk to and knew a lot about the surrounding areas and topography. Cannot recommend him enough - tip him well!

Worth Every Penny - Preston was a fabulous guide to our family of 2 adults and 2 kids (9yr & 11yr). Patient on parts we had trouble with. Encouraging. Loved that this outfit takes all sizes no max or min weights. Also loved that it was a private one just our group. They were very safery concious too and chnaged our time so we got it in before storms. Thanks Preston!

outstanding canyoneering trip! - Our family of 4 had an incredible canyoneering trip with Herb through Desert Highlights! He was incredibly patient with all of us and made sure everyone felt safe and confident. Herb’s extensive knowledge of the area's topography and geography added an educational twist to the adventure. The routes were perfect, offering exciting challenges and stunning views. The whole experience was very personalized and one of the best adventures we've had as a family. We highly recommend Herb and this company for an unforgettable canyoneering experience!
