Amazing day in Joburg & Soweto with Pastor! - We did the full day Johannesburg and Soweto tour with my wife and our two grown up kids, and honestly it was just brilliant. Our guide was Pastor and he really made the whole thing special for us.
Pastor was super friendly right from the start and he just seemed to know everything about the city and Soweto. He told us loads of stories, some funny and some really moving, and you could tell he really cares about the place. We asked him all sorts of questions and he always had a good answer or a joke ready.
The bit that really stuck with us was when Pastor took us into the slums in Soweto. He actually organised a little walk around there with a local guy, and we got to see what life is like for real. It was pretty eye opening and honestly a bit emotional at times, but I’m so glad we did it. We even chatted to a few people who lived there which was something we’ll never forget.
We also stopped for lunch at a local spot (can’t remember the name now, sorry!) and the food was so good. Pastor seemed to know everyone there, which made us feel like we were getting a proper local experience.
If you’re thinking about doing this tour, just go for it. And if you get Pastor as your guide you’re in luck – he’s funny, knows his stuff, and just a really nice guy. Definately one of the best things we did in South Africa. Big thanks to Pastor for a day we won’t forget!

Must do to understand Jo burg - This was an excellent experience. Our guide Paster was brilliant. We were picked up at our apartment on time and were flexible enough to drop us at the airport. We were lucky that we were there only family and the tour was customised for us with a stop to the Apartheid museum. Both Apartheid museum and Soweto are must sees. But the real highlight was Pasters knowledge and stories which meant that we really felt we understood the city much more.

Good tour! - interesting tour that allows you to see quite a few landmarks in a short period of time - it is very convenient, as the driver picks you up at the hotel and drives your around the things to see, before dropping you off. I recommend to bring in some cash for tipping! my guide was very nice, knowledgeable and took a very good care of me - thank you!

Soweto Half-day Tour - No contact from the tour agency after we booked the tour from Tripadvisor until we contacted them in the morning of the tour. The tour guide came punctually at 8.30am and picked us up up from our hotel. He was driving a VW Passat for only two of us. Visited a few spots in johannesburg City, then proceeded to Soweto. Visited the areas with richer people and the slum. The slum area was not big and many occupied by foreign immigrants from neighbouring countries. A local man was waiting for us to bring us for a walk in the slum area, and we had to pay a tip for him. Lastly, visited Nelson Mandela small old house. We were back to our hotel by about 1.00pm.
We did not find the tour interesting and it was a very common and average tourist place.
