You will also learn about the Palace’s transition into a medieval city with its unique characteristics.
Starting at the Golden Gate of Diocletian’s Palace, you will explore key areas such as the Peristyle, Jupiter’s Temple (exterior), Diocletian’s Cellars (Central Substructure), Triclinium, and the Mausoleum (Cathedral; exterior).
- The Peristyle of Diocletian’s Palace - Standing in the center of Diocletian’s Palace, the Peristyle, you will learn about its function and significance. As the Palace’s central spot, the Peristyle connected and divided people from the Emperor. From here, you can enjoy a panoramic view and gain insights into Palace life. You will also hear about the transformation of buildings and life due to the spread of Christianity. From the Peristyle, we will enter the central part of Diocletian’s Palace cellars, where you will learn about their historical usage and significance in Split’s history, as well as their modern-day importance. Additionally, we will visit the Triclinium, where you will learn about the dining habits of Emperors and Romans, as well as the organization of the Emperor’s dining room.
