The tour begins at the Riva, the renowned coastal promenade of Split, often referred to as the city’s living room!

The guide will provide an introduction to Croatia, Split, and the itinerary.

• Diocletian’s Palace - From the Riva promenade, enjoy a 10-minute introduction to one of the best-preserved Roman monuments from the 4th century AD—an impressive palace built for Roman Emperor Diocletian.

Originally, the palace was the Emperor’s luxurious retirement home, and in the 7th century, it transformed into the medieval city of Split.

Enter the Palace through the Southern gate and explore its main sections over the next 90+ minutes.

• Diocletian Palace Substructures - From the Riva promenade, enter the Palace through the Bronze gate to visit the remarkably preserved 1700-year-old basements, known as Diocletian’s palace substructures.

In the basements, learn about Diocletian’s life: his rise to emperor, his reign, his years of glory, and his eventual abdication and “retirement.”

Discover the construction of his Palace, its ingenious architectural design, and the precious stone from the island of Brac used in its construction.

Understand why the nearby Roman capital town Salona was crucial for Split’s development in the 7th century and how northern invaders destroyed Salona, aiding the Palace’s conversion into the medieval town of Split.

• The Peristyle of Diocletian’s Palace - The central square of the Palace.

It is surrounded by diverse architectural styles and monuments, ranging from 3000-year-old Egyptian to ancient Roman, various medieval styles (cathedral bell tower, noble palaces…), and modern and contemporary ones.

• Vestibulum of Diocletian’s Palace - A stunning circular building that served as Diocletian’s lounge, the entrance to the Emperor’s private chambers.

Occasionally, enjoy the delightful Dalmatian choirs, “Klape,” performing here!

• Eastern (Silver) Gate - The Eastern Palace gate and the start of the main Decumanus street.
• Nadalina cokolada - A fantastic local chocolate producer. Enjoy a couple of sweet treats with Mediterranean fruit and herbal flavors.

Unfortunately, closed on Sundays, so this visit will be skipped then.

• Grgur Ninski Statue - The large statue of the renowned Croatian archbishop from the 10th century, crafted by the famous Croatian sculptor, Ivan Mestrovic.
• Split Synagogue - Visit the 16th-century Medieval Jewish Ghetto.

If interested, explore the 3rd oldest operating synagogue in Europe, located here in Split.

• The Golden Gate - The main entrance to the Palace.
  Discuss the “people trap” Gate’s concept, the Roman streets Cardo and Decumanus, and the road to Salona, the ancient Roman capital town.
• Pjaca - The main square of the Medieval town of Split.
  The City Hall building and many other beautiful palaces surround this square.
• Fruit’s Square (Trg Brace Radic) - Vocni trg (Fruit’s Square) is the second most important square of medieval Split, formerly a marketplace.
  At the center stands a statue of Marko Marulic, a notable Croatian poet and humanist from the 15th century, known as the “Father of Croatian literature.”
• Prokurative - Prokurative Square in Split, Croatia, is a beautiful open space surrounded by neo-Renaissance buildings, often hosting cultural events and outdoor performances. With its elegant architecture and lively atmosphere, it is often compared to St. Mark’s Square in Venice, Italy, renowned for its stunning palaces and historic landmarks.
