A group of Asian elephants, numbering no fewer than 250, find a permanent home in Udawalawe national park. The park’s plentiful water sources enable it to support large elephant populations. Every year, hundreds of elephants trek to the park from adjacent protected regions. The park was established as a haven for elephants that had been displaced by the creation of the nearby Udawalawe reservoir.
