Sailing into Serenity: A Comino Island Adventure

Drawn by the allure of Comino Island’s crystal-clear waters and majestic sea caves, I embarked on a catamaran adventure from Bugibba. Join me as I dive into the vibrant marine life of the Crystal Lagoon and bask in the serene beauty of the Blue Lagoon.

Setting Sail to Comino Island

The anticipation was palpable as I boarded the catamaran at Bugibba, ready to embark on the Comino Island Adventure. As a marine biologist, the allure of exploring the Blue Lagoon, Crystal Lagoon, and the majestic sea caves was irresistible. The boat was bustling with fellow adventurers, some heading to Gozo for a four-hour excursion, while others, like myself, were eager to immerse in the serene beauty of Comino Island.

The journey began with a gentle cruise along Malta’s stunning coastline. The cliffs and rocky formations were a testament to nature’s artistry, and I couldn’t help but marvel at the sight of St. Paul’s Island with its iconic statue. The onboard commentary, available in multiple languages, enriched the experience, offering insights into the geological and historical significance of the sights we passed.

Diving into the Crystal Lagoon

Our first stop was the Crystal Lagoon, a hidden gem accessible only by boat. The water was unbelievably clear, a snorkeler’s paradise. I couldn’t resist the call of the sea and quickly donned my gear, eager to explore the underwater world. The marine life was vibrant, and I felt a familiar thrill as I swam alongside schools of fish, their scales glinting in the sunlight.

For those less inclined to dive in, the catamaran offered three exhilarating water slides, perfect for a quick plunge into the refreshing waters. The top deck loungers were a coveted spot, offering a perfect vantage point to soak in the sun and the breathtaking views. It was a reminder of the importance of sunscreen, as the cool breeze masked the sun’s intensity.

The Enchanting Blue Lagoon

After a brief stop to drop off passengers heading to Gozo, we made our way to the Blue Lagoon. The boat moored in a prime location, providing easy access to the crystal-clear waters. I chose to stay on board, not wanting to relinquish my spot on the sun deck. The loungers were incredibly comfortable, and the gentle sway of the boat was soothing.

The Blue Lagoon was a hive of activity, with food stalls offering local delicacies and the option to purchase snacks and drinks on board. I indulged in a small bottle of wine, savoring the moment as I watched the sun dance on the water’s surface. As the day drew to a close, we cruised back to Bugibba, passing the Santa Maria pirate caves and the Elephant’s Head rock formation, a fitting end to a day filled with wonder and adventure.

The crew’s hospitality was commendable, and I made sure to express my gratitude as we disembarked. This journey was more than just a boat trip; it was a celebration of the sea’s beauty and a reminder of why I fell in love with the ocean in the first place. I left with a heart full of memories and a promise to return, eager to explore more of Malta’s aquatic treasures.
