Setting Sail to Jost Van Dyke

The Caribbean sun was just beginning to rise as I found myself boarding a boat in St. John, ready to embark on an adventure to Jost Van Dyke. The air was filled with the promise of a day spent exploring some of the most beautiful spots in the British Virgin Islands. As a former professional surfer, I’ve spent countless hours on the water, but there’s something uniquely thrilling about setting sail to a new destination, especially one as legendary as Jost Van Dyke.

Our captains for the day, Captain Splash and Captain Carlie, greeted us with warm smiles and an infectious enthusiasm that set the tone for the day. They were attentive and knowledgeable, making everyone feel at ease, including a fellow traveler with mobility concerns. After a refreshing drink, we made our way to Foxy’s Taboo, where some of our group ventured to the Bubbly Pool. I opted to relax at the bar, enjoying the stunning views and the company of fellow travelers. The camaraderie among our group was infectious, and it was clear that everyone was relishing the opportunity to explore this island paradise.

Our journey continued past Sandy Spit, a picture-perfect island that seemed to have leapt straight out of a postcard. The sight of its pristine sands and turquoise waters was a reminder of the natural beauty that the Caribbean has to offer.

White Bay: A Slice of Paradise

Our final destination was White Bay, home to the famous Soggy Dollar Bar. Known for its signature Painkiller cocktail, the bar lived up to its reputation. As I sipped on the tropical concoction, I couldn’t help but feel a deep sense of contentment. The combination of the sun, sand, and sea was intoxicating, and I was grateful for the opportunity to experience it all.

We indulged in delicious lobster tacos from CocoLoco, a perfect complement to the refreshing drinks. Floating in the gin-clear waters of White Bay, I felt a profound connection to the ocean, a feeling that has always fueled my passion for island life.

As the day came to a close, we made our way back to the boat, our hearts full of memories and our spirits lifted by the beauty of Jost Van Dyke. The adventure had been everything I hoped for and more, a perfect blend of relaxation and exploration.
