- Bertha’s Beach - The journey from Stanley to Bertha’s Beach typically takes between 45 minutes to an hour, depending on the road and weather conditions. Bertha’s Beach is one of the Falkland Islands’ most picturesque coastal spots, featuring a large seasonal gentoo penguin colony. Visitors can stroll along the pristine white sandy beach, observe penguins in their natural environment, and enjoy sweeping coastal views with excellent opportunities for wildlife observation and photography.
- Lady Elizabeth Shipwreck - En route to Gypsy Cove, travelers will encounter the Lady Elizabeth Shipwreck, a three-masted iron barque constructed in 1879 in Sunderland, England. Initially used for global cargo transport, the ship later became a part of the Falkland Islands’ maritime legacy. In 1913, it was towed to Stanley Harbour and served as a floating warehouse for the Falkland Islands Company.
In 1936, the ship broke free from its moorings during a storm and ran aground, where its remains are still visible today. Over time, the structure has deteriorated, leaving behind the skeletal hull that stands as one of Stanley’s most iconic landmarks and a testament to the islands’ rich maritime history.
- Gypsy Cove - At Gypsy Cove, visitors will find a sheltered bay with white sandy beaches, turquoise waters, and stunning coastal scenery. The area hosts a seasonal Magellanic penguin colony, along with various seabirds, making it a favored spot for wildlife viewing and photography. Guests can enjoy a brief walk to the viewing area and soak in the tranquil natural surroundings.
Gypsy Cove also holds historical importance, having been part of the Yorke Bay area during the 1982 Falklands Conflict, when it was heavily mined. The mines have since been cleared, and the area is now preserved and protected for both wildlife and visitors.
- Stanley - The return trip from Gypsy Cove to Stanley takes about 10–15 minutes, followed by visits to key historic and scenic sites within the town. Along the way, visitors will see the Totem Pole, Whalebone Display, and the 1982 Liberation Monument, Christ Cathedral Church, each providing insights into the Falkland Islands’ maritime heritage, cultural traditions, and modern history.
In Stanley, travelers will experience colorful buildings, historic architecture, and views across Stanley Harbour before heading back to the port.
