The trail spans approximately 2.7 km and takes about 2 hours to complete. It begins at Conceição Road, winding through lush vegetation until reaching the base of Morro do Piquinho. Along the path, hikers can admire the diverse local wildlife and plant life, including magnificent fig trees and various rock formations. The highlight is reaching the summit of Piquinho, which stands around 200 meters high, offering an almost 360° view of the island, showcasing the Port, the Secondary Islands, the Chapel of São Pedro, the Fortress of the Remédios, Cachorro Beach, the Outer Sea, Cacimba do Padre, and Morro dos Dois Irmãos. As the ascent continues, the trail leads to the renowned “Piquinho,” also known as the rappel rock, a strategic viewpoint offering hikers stunning panoramic vistas. From this vantage point, the impressive Morro do Pico can be admired in the background—the island’s highest peak at 321 meters—alongside iconic sites like Praia do Cachorro and the historic Fortaleza dos Remédios.
The journey progresses to a higher elevation of 217 meters, where the experience culminates in a breathtaking sunset viewed from above, with expansive views of the coastline and the island below. This hike seamlessly blends adventure, natural beauty, and unforgettable viewpoints, making it perfect for travelers in search of a rewarding outdoor experience and one of the island’s most beautiful sunsets.
