Amazing Athletes - Although we have been to Japan many times we had never seen a Sumo exhibition but on this trip we were in for an amazing exhibition of the sport. The show is entertaining, funny and informative and you are right in the middle of the action. We had one current and one retired wrestlers, the retired wrestler was so engaging and the M/C for the show was absolutely incredible. She kept the show moving, had a great deal of information on the sport and the banter between her and the retired wrestler was hilarious. The show will teach you a lot about the sport, you get to interact with the wrestlers and pictures with the wrestlers at the end of the show. This is a must if you are going to visit Japan given how entertaining it is as well as it being their national sport.

Sumo Joe - This adventure was a solid, basic introduction to sumo. They introduced the training regimen, pre match rituals and strategy for winning at sumo wrestling. After two bouts between actual sumo wrestlers they invited the audience to challenge them. My son stepped into the sumo warrior suit and took on the biggest wrestler and was subsequently swung around the room like a rag doll. He loved it! The wrestlers were playful and had a great sense of humor and truly showed their athleticism. At the end we had opportunities to take pictures with the wrestlers. We were served a yummy tonkatsu pork cutlet with soup and rice prepared by the sumo wrestlers. Overall a fantastic family experience!

Sumo Show: Definitely Worth Your While - We loved the Sumo Show & lunch! We are a party of 8 and we have a wide range of ages and interests (2 grandparents, 2 adult kids + spouses and 2 grandkids (8 & 18)). After the show my son, mother in law & brother in law all told me how great the Sumo show was, and the tonkatsu lunch got raves as well. If you are wary about a Sumo show, you don’t need to be. Here, the retired sumo wrestlers are chefs as well as participants in an entertaining and educational show about the history of Sumo. The host/MC, Michie, was really good at explaining things and getting the audience to participate without feeling goofy. The two retired wrestlers the day we were there were “Jumbo” and “Joe”. Two really impressive men with keen senses of humor and a passion for Sumo, Japanese culture and entertaining. At the event, you learn about Sumo and what it takes to be a professional sumo wrestler including some legal and illegal moves when in the ring. In addition to watching 3 rounds of the retired wrestlers wrestle one another, there is a time for audiences members to challenge them. This is a priceless experience! Overall, my whole family gave this experience “2 thumbs up!”
