• Wat Mahathat - Established in the 13th century, this is one of Ayutthaya’s oldest and most important temples, as it once housed the Buddha’s sacred relic.
• Wat Yai Chai Mang Khon - Known as Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon, or the “Great Monastery of Auspicious Victory,” it features a prominent prang (tower) that dominates the landscape. This ancient temple was constructed in the latter half of the 14th century during King U Thong’s reign. Remarkably, it remains active with resident monks. The monastery received its current name in the late 16th century when a large chedi was erected. In the northeast, visitors can admire a large Reclining Buddha statue draped in yellow cloth, facing east towards the sunrise. Like many structures in the area, Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon was destroyed during the 1767 invasion. It is a wonderful place to visit.
• Wat Chaiwatthanaram - Renowned for its stunning Khmer-style architecture and picturesque riverside setting, this is one of Ayutthaya’s most iconic and well-preserved temples. Visitors will enjoy a late afternoon and sunset visit. Many locals, dressed in traditional attire, pray in the evening, adding to the charm of the experience.
