- Master-of-Nets Garden - The tour guide will meet guests at their hotel or Shanghai Railway Station at 08:30 a.m. From there, a bullet train will take them to Suzhou’s Master-of-Nets Garden to begin the one-day Suzhou tour. This garden is a quintessential example of Suzhou’s mansion gardens and served as a typical residence for officials during the Qing Dynasty. Although it is less than one-sixth the size of the Humble Administrator’s Garden, it showcases exceptional gardening skills by creating stunning scenery within a compact space, featuring bridges, brooks, pavilions, and buildings arranged thoughtfully.
- Pingjiang Road - Following the visit to Pingjiang Road, the tour will proceed to Pingjiang Road, which epitomizes the ancient city of Suzhou. Spanning 1,606 meters, Pingjiang Road is a stone path with a river running alongside it. The area is characterized by bridges over the river, houses with white walls and black roofs lining the stone road, and leisurely strolling locals, all of which reflect traditional Suzhou life. Its nostalgic charm makes Pingjiang Road a symbol of Suzhou’s ancient city.
- Suzhou Museum - The tour will then move on to Suzhou Museum. Designed by I.M. Pei, a globally acclaimed and award-winning architect, the museum is one of Suzhou’s most popular attractions. It houses an extensive collection of ancient ceramics, cultural relics, and woodcarvings, with a beautiful lotus pool at its center being a notable feature.
- Tongli Town - The final stop of the tour will be Tongli Town. This water town is one of the six renowned ancient water towns in the southern Yangtze River Delta, celebrated for its rivers, historic bridges, and architectural complexes. It boasts a rich cultural heritage, with traditional residences including gardens, houses, and temples being the city’s highlights.

Fascinating and various experiences- an awesome day trip - This was a fantastic one day tour from Shanghai to Suzhou and the historic water town Tongli. We saw many interesting things, and learned much. We visited the modern museum in Suzhou, and it was excellent. A beautiful building; the paintings and ceramics were exquisite. A visit to the Master of the Nets garden was lovely. Restful; elegant building with pavilions around a pool and garden area with rockeries. This is a UNESCO world heritage site. We had a delicious Chinese lunch including various dumplings and noodles.
At every place, beautiful photo opportunities.
What made the day perfect was our excellent guide Linda, who was knowledgeable, kind, and well organised; a great host. Linda managed the logistics of the pick-up and journey extremely well. Our very great thanks to Linda!

Wonderful guide - This is my second visit to China using China Highlights (they are a brilliant company, cannot praise them enough. Everything runs like clockwork from first contact, through designing the trip, to the experience itself) but this is my first time in the Shanghai region.
My guide today was Jessica. From start to finish she was exceptional; nothing was too much trouble. I was taken care of like a King. In addition she is a very intelligent and highly educated young woman who is able to handle complex concepts and discussions in English. Her command of the language is really good, as is her knowledge of the subject.
The tour today consisted of visits to two outstanding gardens plus a rickshaw ride and a wonderful lunch in a very nice restaurant. I could not find a fault and have no hesitation is giving both China Highlights and Jessica a 5 star rating.
By only difficulty is that I can’t take her with me everywhere I go in China!
Thank you China Highlights (for the record, my trip was organised by Fiona who never lost patience with me - I had a serious illness last year and so needed to be more fussy and careful than most) and a huge thank you for Jessica; a star in the making!
