The meeting point is at Freysnes Gas Station, where participants can use the restroom and purchase snacks. From there, a short drive will lead to a glacier car park, where everyone will be outfitted with the necessary safety gear.

The meeting point is at Freysnes Gas Station, where participants can use the restroom and purchase snacks. From there, a short drive will lead to a glacier car park, where everyone will be outfitted with the necessary safety gear.
A brief walk from the car park along a trail will bring the group to the glacier’s edge, where equipment will be donned and safety instructions provided. On the glacier, participants will traverse easy terrain to become acquainted with the essential techniques needed for the journey.
Once comfortable and confident with the equipment and its use, the group will advance to steeper and more adventurous terrain, away from the crowds. Here, the guide will demonstrate their expertise by setting anchors, securing ropes, and cutting steps to ensure a safe passage through these areas.
Throughout the day, there will be ample opportunities to take photographs and learn about the natural history of Vatnajökull, Europe’s largest ice cap. The guide will share insights on geology, glaciology, recent glacier changes, and the future in the context of climate change.
