- Jerash Ruins - Embark on a full-day excursion to Jerash and Umm Qais, where you’ll discover the remnants of two ancient Roman Decapolis cities—part of a group of 10 cities on the Roman Empire’s frontier in the Middle East. Begin your journey by heading north through Jordan’s lush landscapes to Jerash, a contemporary city surrounded by the ruins of the once-thriving Roman city known as “Gerasa” - Jerash. Meet your welcoming local guide at the entrance and enjoy a private tour of this remarkable site, one of the best-preserved Roman cities in the Middle East. Pass through the grand Hadrian’s Arch, the city’s main entrance, and marvel at the classic ruins before you.
- Oval Plaza - Wander through this once-vibrant city to see notable sites such as the colonnaded street, the Temples of Zeus and Artemis, the Hippodrome chariot-racing arena, and the Oval Plaza; an egg-shaped forum encircled by standing columns. As you explore, listen to fascinating stories about “Gerasa” during its prime. Discover how Alexander the Great conquered the city in the 2nd century B.C., and how local farmers later grew highly sought-after fruits and vegetables to sell to affluent Roman inhabitants.
- Umm Qais - After some free time to explore on your own, proceed to the village of Umm Qais, which overlooks the ruins of another Roman Decapolis city known as “Gadara.” Enjoy the views from here over the Sea of Galilee and Golan Heights as you explore the Greco-Roman ruins, including the amphitheater, crumbled mausoleum, basilica terrace, and other theaters and treasures. Then, visit the town’s museum to admire some of the valuable artifacts recovered from the site, including mosaics and marble statues. Return to the Dead Sea, where your trip concludes with a hotel drop-off.
